    Crohn's managed completely by diet

I've also been successful at controlling CD through diet. A few years after my resection surgery I started experiencing abdominal cramps more frequently and missing work. I eventually started a mental log of my meals and noticed a pattern with diet. Through (painful) process of elimination I...

Has this happened to anyone else?

After my resection, I was problem free for a few years. Then I had abdominal cramps more frequently, causing me to miss work. I finally noticed a pattern with my diet and when the cramps happened. I figured out the "trigger foods" through a (painful) process of elimination. Unfortunately no...

? about what to buy for after sergery.

We have a new hospital that was opened about five years ago, it replaced the old one that was downtown. All the rooms are private single bed rooms. They are pretty quiet. I remember a stay at the old hospital when there was a patient a few doors down who kept trying to seduce the nurses. The...

? about what to buy for after sergery.

See if your hospital has wireless for the guests. I brought along a laptop and surfing the internet was great for passing the time while recovering.

    Diary?

The phone is a good tool to keep your food diary and prescriptions. Good choice. I'm 55 and still memorize my food diary, but when I have a bunch of prescriptions I have to map them out on a spreadsheet.

A Dr. to work without meds???

They're out there. My GI was convinced that I could control my CD with diet and the only medication I am on is Pentasa and that's the maintenance dosage. I saw another doctor in the same department and she suggested a doomsday diet of all these medications. She was also European indian; due...

    Cramps

One tip I was given by the ER was to rub your abdomen in circles. Counterclockwise with respect to the view as you face another person. This is the direction that food traverses through the piping. I've done it and it does work sometimes, I can feel something free up.

    Crohns dating site?

Spouses who leave their SO because they cannot tolerate a disease should be careful what they ask for. Those spouses won't be healthy forever either and may develop something worse - and then look who's crying now. Not saying that I wish it or am gloating, but they should be careful what they...

    The Miserable Prednisonites Club

Last weekend I had a 2 day stay in the hospital for bacterial infection left behind by stomach flu that was triggering bad cramps. Other than antibiotics I was on low dosage of prednisone, after discharge I was directed to continue 20mg through Wednesday. No gradual tapering off. After lunch...

Stomach Flu - similar symptoms to CD cramps

I caught the stomach flu last week (yay me!) Initially I was confused because the symptoms were similar to abdominal cramps when crohns has a reaction to something I ate. The first night was the worst, vomiting and cramps for 10 hours. Slight dehydration and brief periods of chills...

My husbands Crohn’s disease is making me depressed

You are to be commended to being dedicated to your husband at a tough time. Some people here fail to understand the wedding vow "in sickness and in health". I wish your husband would show his appreciation for the wonderful wife he has. Please don't take it personally. It is likely his coping...

Trying wine for the first time!

Never thought about additives. I live near the NY Finger Lakes with all the wineries and I almost always buy finger lakes wines. I also prefer traditional wines, they may be less likely to have the additives. I have a 1/2 glass of wine about 6x a year. Never on a night before returning to work.

Trying wine for the first time!

Wine is the only alcohol that crosses my lips. I only started drinking it at age 30 and very infrequently so my tolerance is very low. Even a 1/2 glass can get me tipsy. Diagnosed with Crohns at age 40. Wine never aggravated my crohns, I still drink it. I did have to water down the coffee...

    What foods do you eat?

The perplexing thing about CD is that no two patients have the same food issues. While many patients cannot tolerate red meat or dairy and others, they do not bother me. Had you browsed here?

Prednisone helped pain, but not the rumbles / gurgles / noises

If your doctor can't think of a single nutritionist, then you need another doctor. While diets don't work for everyone, medicine doesn't work for everyone either. I was lucky that I could control my CD by isolating and eliminating trigger foods, and by mixing greek yogurt (good probiotics...

Prednisone helped pain, but not the rumbles / gurgles / noises

Ask your doctor about bland diet. It is designed to drastically reduce intestinal gas. The diet isn't too restrictive, nowhere near as bad as liquid diet.
