    Strictures and osmotics

    Strictures and osmotics

DEmberton...thanks - yes - it just not seem to make any difference to the pain but seems to give permanent bowel urgency for 5 hours or more after each bowel movement. By the way did u loose your illeocal valve in your surgery and has that given you problems..they can't commit to saving...

    remission rates

Does anyone know the statistics on remmision rates if you are already in remission pre surgery? ie I have had no inflammation for a year but need surgery due to pain and constipation from fibrotic strictures. presumably this gives me a better chance of long term remission compared to surgery...

IBD nurses have phoned me twice asking me to do a blood test

DEmberton: well it is of course a balance between maintaining your remission and doing damage/ side effects. I must say as a 57 yr old diagnosed 4 years ago I think the first flare or two is the worst and you can hope for an easier time as he years go by so hopefully we all get meds reduced...

IBD nurses have phoned me twice asking me to do a blood test

Don't panic - I think they have just changed the protocol in AZA right across the NHS- I too have had lots of reminders to get tests that I have just had. They probably got sued by someone that di dnot get checked often enough so thye have reduced the time between tests- I think form 6 months...

Diagnosed at age 50 & over Support Group

the danger with not taking maintenece meds is you end up needing surgery for fibrotic strictures...just the situation i am in now. R

Do you work without your IC Valve?

If you have no current strictures you could also try increasing fibre in the diet, this should help absorb fluid and slow things down.

    New pain: is it strictures?

thanks, Well I had an MRI a few weeks ago and they confirmed the strictures are fibrotic but when I asked about the new higher level of pain on the left side they just said it was hard to tell - patients complain of pains all over - I'm just concerned - don't know how much they check around...

    Had surgery 2 weeks ago

Melissah90...did this resolve? I guessed maybe it was a bit of post op swelling at the join...in which case it would go away in time. I know when I had a disc removed from my back they warned the operation takes the pain away immediately and then a week or so later if comes back for a week...

Decision-making in ileocecal Crohn’s disease management: surgery versus pharmacothera

Thanks for posting this... as someone with two strictures in small bowel just north of the valve and facing resection soon this is very encouraging. As my inflamtion levels are very low thanks to AZATHIOPRINE and desease always been limited to illeocal area the chances sound good for much...

    Waiting to see surgeon

I am waiting for my referral to surgeon for possible resection of 2 fibrotic strictures in illium- due to pain despite being inflamtion free for over a year. In the mean time I am on Azathioprine ( which seems to be working) and Movicol to help ease the constipation - which I guess is due to...

    New member facing surgery

Thanks for the answers SCIPIO...yes the really unfortunate thing is that my worst symptom in not the pain from the food going through the strictures - which is bad enough - but that if I used Movicol to keep things moving -as directed by doctors - it gives me strong pains for at least half a...
