23andMe IBD study - your help needed!

It's more about life insurance, because there are protective laws in place about health insurers. Also, it's not as much the diagnosis of Crohn's as the access to the wide variety of genetic markers that we'd receive info on. What they seem to give is a large amount if raw genetic data, some...

23andMe IBD study - your help needed!

One thing concerned me in their terms of service. There's a bit in there about how insurance companies and the like sometimes ask whether you have any genetic information and how it could be considered fraud if you did not disclose having the info from their service. I'll probably still go...

    Learning how/what to eat

I've heard people talk about white rice often, but what about brown? Has anyone heard of people having specific intolerances to that?

    Remicade and flumist

Anyone in the household definitely needs to get the shot and not the mist. When I took my kids in expecting them to get the mist, the checklist of exclusions specifically asked whether anyone was taking immunosuppressant medications and listed Remicade specifically as one of the examples. I...

23andMe IBD study - your help needed!

Thanks for posting this. I was planning on doing one of these kind of kits just for genealogy work at some point. Sweet!

    Remicade Club Support Group

I'm finally starting Friday. My mood has been a roller coaster in anticipation, but I seem to have settled into a mild resigned funk going into it.

    First infusion done!

Best of luck. I'm starting Friday.

    Coconut??

I've used finely shredded coconut as an addition when putting frozen fruit through my masticating juicer (for a sorbet-like treat), but it was so fibrous that it really didn't get broken down much eat all. I eventually decided that just sprinkling some on top was just as good.

    Just bought my first juicer

Do you have any idea how much is a useful "dose" in terms of fighting inflammation?

What are you thankful for today?

I'm thankful for one of the most beautiful New England autumns I've ever seen.

What are you thankful for today?

My family has a nightly ritual around the dinner table of each person saying something that he or she is thankful for. I've found for me that that daily practice of taking time to be mindful of things that are going well is good for keeping positive and putting things in perspective. Having...

    Just bought my first juicer

I'm newly dabbling in juicing as well. I've been using carrots or cucumber with some kind off fruit like pear, apple, or watermelon and then adding some other stuff here and there like kale, beets, or fennel. I probably put way too many different things in there, but so far it's fun and edible...

    How are you feeling today?

Ann, I love the point on gratitude. Our family does "Thankfuls" every night before meals as a way of bringing some positive focus and awareness of the things that are going well in our lives. It's so easy for me to obsess on the things that are not going right and it's a good thing for me to...

    Ovarian Failure

How is she doing with everything? It must be a lot for a kid to take in. It sounds like you're really there for her and I'd bet that as she talks about what she's going through, she'll probably give you cues about the right time to talk about the infertility. My heart really goes out to you both!

    The cost of this medication...

This is such a thorny issue. It doesn't take a full-blown conspiracy (i.e., people actively planning together) to cause these problems. Healers of most kinds from doctors to psychotherapists to alternative practitioners are indirectly rewarded by having their patients NOT get "cured," because...

    The challenge of pain perception

I can relate. My GI recent told me her theory that I have a really high pain threshold to explain why I don't notice symptoms between SBOs. I actually had a basically symptom-free summer but an MRI in early September showed moderate to severe inflammation and the possible beginnings of a...

    First resection

Best of luck to you. This place has been great as a place to learn, vent, or reach out depending on what kind of day it's been. I haven't had a resection myself, but my GI has told me that she thinks it's in the cards for me in the future (because my symoms are primarily obstructive). She...

Partial obstruction (in the hospital again)

So sorry to hear that. Flare-ups are different for everyone, but what your son is experiencing sounds a lot like the worst of my SBOs. Did they do a NG tube? If not, I found that walking was really helpful when I was in the hospital last year. What a disappointment that that happened so...

Want to work but SO anxious

One more crummy day for me and you can catch the fireworks in the Vent Away section. :ymad:
