Starting Humira- Pens vs pre filled syringes

Syringes all the way. My hands aren't strong enough (arthritis) to use the pen with just 1 hand while the other is pinching skin, and you have much more control with the syringe which makes it a lot less painful and the bonus is no scary click ;)

What's your theory on how you got Crohn's Disease?

I agree that this thread should have been called what Triggered your IDB rather than Cause it. I've always had a "weak" tummy and can't remember not having D regularly but the first 2 big flares I had were both triggered by holidays in Mexico and Thailand respectively. Both time I got very sick...

    Nervous about surgery

No! I'm so sorry to hear that! just hope it will be quick and that the eventual timing will suit with your studies etc.

    Nervous about surgery

What is their reason for not covering it? Why else have private insurance? Can you appeal? Mine paid for my resection 18 months ago and I was quite impressed that they got it sorted within a week (that's all the notice I had) and did most of the running around after specialist referrals etc...

    Charlotte's Web Strain log

Very interested! Especially since it's now classed as hemp oil, that means more of us will be able to access it. Good luck and keep updating!

    Humira Club Support Group

Well after being on Humira just about year now a recent MRE showed around 30 cm of inflammation. I'm not terribly surprised because I had been slowly going down hill for months now. I really only had the 1st month after the loading doses that was really good. Now going to weekly, hopefully...

    Constant stomach gurgling & depression

I have the same, also due to strictures. Maybe you can ask about some imaging being done to rule that in or out? I just make fun of it, can't do anything abut it so when it happens in meetings at work I just say something along the lines of my belly having an opinion too or whatever comes to my...

Going out for drinks with friends

Well, I must be extremely lucky then as alcohol doesn't bother me at all! It has in the past, first red wine and then beer but now I can have both again without any issues. My disease is in and above the ileum. Interestingly when I had issues with alcohol the disease was in the colon only.

Experience with mannitol for mri contrast?

Not sure what it was called, it was just mildly sweet water, no citrus or other flavouring. They used Buscopan to relax the bowel, have had that before and never had any noticeable side-effects so that was fine. They also inject a contrast half way through the procedure, a different one than...

Experience with mannitol for mri contrast?

Well that went better than expected! The mannitol itself isn't terrible to drink, not very nice but miles better than most other preps and I made it home without an accident. The MRI itself is also easy, takes about 20 minutes and you have to hold your breath a lot but that's about it. My...

Experience with mannitol for mri contrast?

Oh dear, now I almost wish I hadn't asked! Thanks for your responses everyone. I'm also sensitive to artificial sweeteners, not terribly but I'm assuming it will be a large quantity. I'll ask on the day if there are any other options, didn't get very far over the phone. I'm driving myself so...

Experience with mannitol for mri contrast?

I'm having an mri next week and after having a bad experience with Metamucil as contrast for a CT enterography I've asked what they will use for contrast for this mri and it's mannitol. Does anyone have experience with this? The Metamucil caused a blockage which led to a week long hospital...

How do you know it's time for a resection?

I guess it all depends on how sure they are that it's inflammation, not scar tissue. I had blockages on and off for about 10 years and when it came to the point of only being able to digest liquids for me the time had come. I was on 60mg of pred and it wasn't helping so in my mind it had to be...

    Possible stricture?

(partial) obstructions caused by strictures usually cause enormous pain and make eating difficult, could it be that you're having "normal" Crohn's pain? I know my symptoms are different for every flare and I have to figure out how bad it is every time. The first time I was ill 20 years ago I was...

    Looking at options in alberta

I would say the same, just try it and see. If you want to start carefully why not start with some CBD oil. I've given it to my 80 year old mother (in Europe where it's legal) to help her sleep and she feels great with it. She usually suffers from anxiety which makes sleeping difficult and this...

Colonoscopy prep, why does it have to be sweet????

I've only recently discovered the plain psyllium so haven't cooked with it yet but I am planning to use it to thicken sauces and maybe in bread. I don't really have a sweet tooth so never had any inspiration to put it in anything sweet but I probably would have used it in a pudding! Good to...

Colonoscopy prep, why does it have to be sweet????

Well I survived again. Didn't manage to finish all the prep but that didn't seem to be an issue. I did ask about alternatives and the nurse said they had something with an orange flavour that most people didn't like either. Not sure if miralax is available here, I'll do some research. He did a...

    Medication after surgery

Yep, I use both psyllium every day and immodium when that's not enough. I re-started psyllium probably a month or two after the operation and I much prefer it over anything else but sometimes it just doesn't do enough. Could you ask to start with psyllium?
