• Welcome to Crohn's Forum, a support group for people with all forms of IBD. While this community is not a substitute for doctor's advice and we cannot treat or diagnose, we find being able to communicate with others who have IBD is invaluable as we navigate our struggles and celebrate our successes. Crohn2357, no, and I have stopped following the research, so I am not the right one to ask :) maybe others here have been keeping up?

First JAK Inhibitor Approved by FDA for Treatment of Crohn's

The placebo effect tells us there is a psychological component to inflammatory bowel diseases. It seems that traumatic events can lead to physical illness, and that being cared for (by others or oneself) can dampen symptoms. The field is called psychoneuroimmunilogy (PNI) and is worth following...

Intestinal Th17 Subset is Associated with Inflammation in Crohn’s Disease and Activated by AIEC

I agree. The silver bullet must be a way of permanently getting rid of the pathogens. I think it must be a tree step process: 1) get the body in the best possible state: no stress, healthy diet, exercise. 2) knock down the pathogens (AIEC and ??) - with a drug that unfortunately does not exist...

    MAP at the 2023 UEG

Thanks, I got a similar impression, that the combination of antibiotics helps some patients, while others see no effect. The high doses and long duration of treatment is tough for some, it seems. For me that uncertainty and the side effects makes anti-MAP therapy less attractive to try.

    MAP at the 2023 UEG

Thanks for sharing. I have followed the MAP research for many years now. It was a setback that Prof. John Hermon-Taylor died, but great to see that the Human Para Foundation is still active and that Dr. Chamberlain / John Aitken continues to do research. I sent off blood samples to Aitkens lab...

For those who have done EEN, what is your selection of the formula?

Well that blend I mentioned above only made it worse. I stopped and I am now focused on getting rid of some mayor stressors in my life. I suspect stress plays a much bigger role in my IBD than I have been aware of.

For those who have done EEN, what is your selection of the formula?

Thank you very much for sharing this. Just had a go at it, and its not that bad. For a batch I am using dextrose (150g) but I exchanged the whey for soy protein powder (40g) because I'm eating plantbased, and cold pressed coconut oil (33g) because I could not find MCT oil in any store. Also, I...

Trauma-related IBD and ways to heal

Another piece in the "origins of stress" puzzle, the diagnosis "CPTSD", short for Complex Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome is now (since 2018) accepted as a psychiatric diagnosis. Prior there was no diagnosis to cover the mental sickness and chronic stress that arise from continuous trauma (eg...

Trauma-related IBD and ways to heal

A short follow up on this thread. I have read enough now to realise the potentials in improving my Crohns disease (CD) my addressing and healing childhood trauma. So I have decided to go down the road of extensive therapy to try and heal my traumatic stress. I can think of four possible outcomes...

What a coincidence Delta hippo. I seriously just ordered that book 20 minutes ago, right before viewing this post!

Trauma-related IBD and ways to heal

I should add that the healing process as defined in ACA and Matés proposals does not involve looking upon ones situation as being a victim. That means the way forward is not blaming parents, siblings, perpetrators - and one self. Rather the therapeutic effect comes from recognizing, with...

Trauma-related IBD and ways to heal

The role of chronic stress in immune diseases seems to be a topic that gets some attention at present. Nature published these within the last year: Depression and anxiety in inflammatory bowel disease: epidemiology, mechanisms and treatment Chronic stress can inflame the gut — now scientists...

Scientists Get a Better Understanding of How Stress Can Inflame the Gut in IBD Patients

Hi Bufford. That does not sound like the best approach to me. If you suppress your (healthy) anger towards other people, the suppression will lead to chronic stress. May I suggest seeing a lecture by Gabor Maté (YouTube) or buying his book "When The Body Says No". He is a phycisian /...

The very high level of clustering of Crohn's Disease.

Interesting map. One correlation I can think of is the intensity of specific kinds of farming. This map shows the intensity of potato-growing, and it seems there is some correlation (not nessecarily causation). Maybe certain pesticides that end up in the watersupply play a role?? Just a guess.
