    Prednisone Induced Osteoporosis

It took me all of 6 months at 24 years old (went as high as 60mg but probably averaged 25). But, things are a little tricky. It's so extreme and we lack a DEXA from before those 6 months that it's possible I had osteopenia even before the pred. I also have terrible problems with vitamin D...

Just feel like giving an update

Yeah, I'm due to go to the GI on Tuesday but I doubt all that suffering will get me anywhere. It'll just be a shrug and move on thing like most of my other issues. I probably should have another EGD just to see how things are going, getting better or worse. I think by then I should be pretty...

Just feel like giving an update

Well, I ended up in the ER puking blood. In fact I ended up passing out while doing registration, falling out of a chair, and waking up in a pool of vomited blood. Pretty much the ER staff were just pissed off that I was making a mess. The doctor was in the room for literally less than a minute...

Just feel like giving an update

I was kind of throwing the gallbladder in with the liver and pancreas as it's really just a part of the ducts. But yeah, it could use a check. I did have a CT but all it picked up was some fatty liver which should be harmless and a result of the prednisone. Especially considering that my...

Just feel like giving an update

Heh, well things have certainly changed since the last post. One of my GI's fellows is pretty decent. He's capable of standing up to the attending when the attending is royally screwing up. So... We dropped the elavil and gave up on the IBS front (frankly thanks soley to my cardiologist's...

    Bone Density

Not a word about bmd meds for me and I'm already at osteoporosis. Gender and age discrimination really. I'm not a happy camper lately. I really wish Canadians wouldn't push the wait times thing. The wait times are the same or shorter than equivalent places in the states. I've been through both...

    Bone Density

You tell your GI you know a 25 year old male with crohns that had osteoporosis after 6 months of prednisone. My doses weren't even very high (20mg average though I went up to 60mg). You're at way more risk than me. Now they've screwed up and the damage is already done. It'll be hell trying to...

    Stomach Involvement

Have you been found to have inflammation in your stomach? Bonus details: What did they find in the biopsies?

    Colors of life

Without pred or tapered below 10mg it's pale yellow. I'm having upper GI issues including a lot of bile. When I tried to taper last time (trying at the moment as well) I apparently inflamed and pinched off the bile duct because when I went back up on my pred it all suddenly released and I was...

Has anyone had a pill cam?

No. The Pill Cam does not effectively show your stomach. The camera MIGHT be turned on while it is in your stomach but the stomach is a wrinkly twisted mess and you can't see anything. To see the stomach you need to inflate it fully with pumped in air which requires an upper endoscopy. I had a...

We all need bone density tests

I am right on the mark between osteopenia and osteoporosis with a score of -2.4. Because my gender and age the score is artificially high and I am actually clearly osteoporotic. I am a 25 year old male who was only on significant doses of prednisone (in recent times) for about 6 months. They...

What position does everyone sleep in?

Right-side semi-prone. Not perfectly on my stomach but close, with just enough space wedged in there to keep it from having any pressure contact with the bed. I find sleeping on my back unbearable. The weight of my stomach on itself hurts. When I'm in an especially bad amount of pain it's on my...

What do you do for work/living??

Phlebotomist at a large university hospital. It's barely doable for me at the moment, though I do love the job. I've had more physically demanding jobs (restaurants, nursing homes, group homes, etc) and I couldn't hold them very well. I simply can't keep up with the pace and I end up calling in...

    Not digesting fat properly

The funny thing is that these same doctors have a history of not being good about these things. Apparently they just got together one day recently and decided to change their ways.

    Not digesting fat properly

Well, I have no idea how this happened, but they practically did a 180. All of a sudden they're talking about crohn's again, saying "The evidence for IBD in you is pretty slim but if it's the only thing that's ever provided you any relief maybe we should at least try a low dose of prednisone...

Ruling out Crohn's based on colonoscopy alone?

It's absolutely ridiculous to exclude crohn's based on a single colonoscopy. But, most doctors wouldn't have any trouble doing so. Few doctors, even GIs, know or care enough about crohn's disease and CD sufferers to understand that. If you're not actively dieing it's not important to diagnose you.

    Not digesting fat properly

I'm due for a big show down in a couple hours with my GIs. Basically, I'm not digesting fat properly for one reason or another and it's causing me malabsorption which is resulting in fat soluble vitamin deficiencies. It's causing me horrible joint pain and so on that's getting disabling. I'm...

    What age were you diagnosed?

I'm curious. Why 5 years of tests? I'd think they'd have done everything there was to do by the end of the first.

    What age were you diagnosed?

I was 18. Of course I got dragged through the medical system for a couple years before it was diagnosed. As far as symptoms it was an issue at least since my pre-teen years. It simply got so bad that it couldn't be dismissed by my doctors as an upset tummy anymore. I got disdiagnosed at 25...

Just feel like giving an update

Just another update so I can have a chance to vent. I've been shying away from the forum for a while now mainly just because I'd like to just not think about crohn's at all. It's depressing to talk about my situation because it's really reached such a hopeless point. I'm now taking ridiculous...
