How long do the positive effects of prednisone last?

I just can't get over how well I feel. It does feel chemically-induced, insofar as I do feel a bit manic...like it couldn't last forever, otherwise I'd burn out! I now weigh just over 8 stone for the first time in almost a year, and I am desperate to pile the weight on while I can, knowing that...

How long do the positive effects of prednisone last?

I've been on pred for 3.5 weeks now - 2 weeks at 40mg, 10 days at 30mg, and I'll be tapering 5mg a week from nextweek. Since being on it, I have put on 4 or 5 pounds, which I'm thrilled about. I am eating everything I can get my hands on. I have so much energy, I am bursting with happiness, my...

Passing a gallstone - what to do?

Thanks to everyone who offered sympathy about my dad. I can honestly say it was the worst time of my life. 6 months in ICU, mostly in isolation as he contracted MRSA twice from the hospital. In that time, he had his pancreas removed and the whole of his colon, plus he was on ventilation after a...

Numbness at the top of my thigh

I've had a weird sensation on the under part of my thigh before. I tried to explain it to a nurse, but she had no idea what I was talking about - it's not so much a pain ,as a sensation...that's the only way I can describe it. It's on my left leg...which is also the one that I get knee pain in...

Passing a gallstone - what to do?

I really don't want to send you into a breakdown, but my dad died from complications from gall stones - his got stuck between his gall bladder and pancreas, cutting off the blood supply to his pancreas and causing it to die. (he ended up with severe acute pancreatitis - and died after 6 months...

    So, please tell me...

Well....so far, so good. The diarrhoea has all but past, but I'm finding the "normality" a bit tricky to get used to - I almost feel constipated. I have loads more energy, which is great mostly...but some of it is definitely aggressive/short-tempered. I'm finding it hard to stay asleep in the...

Are night sweats a symptom of crohns?

I was going to ask the same thing, re; periods and Crohns. My syptoms are always at their worst in the few days leading upto my period - I was wondering whether it was *just* hormones, or whether hormones and Crohns are inextricably linked?

Anyone find Inflammation markers in blood not reliable to diagnose flare up?

The fact that I KNEW a year ago I had IBD (don't ask how - I just did), but the doctors were insisting I didn't, was what sent me into a depressive/anxious state which resulted in being put on anti d's and packed off to a psychiatrist. Really, that first 4 or 5 months were the worst of my entire...

    So, please tell me...

Hmmmmm, I'm liking some of the "positive" SE's - though I'm not sure my hubby and children will cope with an even more manic me (when I'm well, the world is not fast enough for me, so god only knows what a whizzed-up me will be like!!) The weight gain isn't an issue, as I am so tiny right now...

    So, please tell me...

...waht's to love about prednisolone? And what scary side-effects are likely? (I've read the leaflet, but that's ALL SE's - which ones have people actually experienced? I'm on 40mg for at least 2 weeks, dropping to 30mg if I feel miles better by then.

    Feeling alone...

I completely empathise with you. It's so tough, isn't it. What I'm going to say next is really harsh but it's how I honestly feel (sorry if it offends anyone). How I feel is that if you have cancer (in whatever form), you can tell people and they will immediately treat you as if it's worst-case...

Anyone find Inflammation markers in blood not reliable to diagnose flare up?

Yup, same here. During what I assume was my first flare last summer, all my bloods came back "normal". In fact, my GP got quite exasperated with me and insisted that the blood tests don't lie. WRONG! Strangely enough, the last tests I had a month ago had raised markers...yet I felt ok. I...

    I love my wife :)

:Wow! I'm actually choked reading your post, Alan, and all the ones about your wonderful wife - you 2 sound like an amazing team. I'm lucky - I have a fabulous husband who has told me clearly he'll never stop loving or taking care of me, even, as I put it, "when I'm smelly and completely...

    New Guy

Hi Matt, Good to see you. I am another newbie, only signed up yesterday after being diagnosed last month. I too have just started pred (1st eight tablets this morning) in a desperate attempt to getsome weight on me, halt the exhaustion and put me into remission (fingers crossed!). I'm really...

Are night sweats a symptom of crohns?

I asked the same thing of my consultant yesterday, and he said it was a generalised sign of being under par, when you have a flare. I am waking 3 or more times a night, drenched, with the sheets soaking. It's horrible. I too thought I was going through the menopause! Just another undignified...

I'm new - not sure whether this is the right place to post.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! All of the above is what I had *some* idea of, having browsed the net for info. Plus, the very last thing my first gastro said to me was "diet plays a part, and you will quickly find what causes you problems". Once again, I came away from yesterday's appointment...
