After an emergency stoma and months of depression, anxiety and panic attacks which followed it, I've just been told (5 minutes ago) that the hospital want me in on MONDAY. Yup, 2 days not inc this evening. I went from utter delight/relief to terror in about 2.5 minutes.
What can I expect during/after recovery? Recovery time? What'll everything be like *toilet-wise* afterwards?
I am honestly terrified. But if I'm really really really lucky, I may be home for Christmas. x

My boyfriends in the same situation, but we got a bit more notice than that! If you're absolutely very terrified then you should have a word with your surgical consultant, ask him the risks (if any) and ask what to expect afterwards. Also try to speak to your usual consultant, and if possible a stoma nurse. Try to get as many opinions as possible to get as much information as you can. The forum is a fantastic place to get information, that's where I've been getting all of mine (words cannot express my terror when he goes into theatre. Damn anxiety) but this has really helped me a lot.

Good luck with the reversal lovely, I'm sure it'll go absolutely fine. Get a lot of rest beforehand, that always helps!

Dont be afraid of the reversal. Although for some reason I had more pain with the reversal than I had with the first surgery, I am so glad that I did it. Just have a positive outlook and that you are getting rid of the little booger. I was scared after about going to that bathroom and having a movement for fear of the intestines coming apart, it never happened and within a few weeks I was going like it never happened. I do have to take cholestrmine and pentasa but its all good now. I had me reversal in May

I wouldn't worry about the reversal - mine went really smoothly, and there is no reason to expect that it should cause problems. It will feel a little strange for you to get used to have gas and stool pass again, but that's just like riding a bike!

Best wishes for a quick recovery. Whoops, just saw the original date of the posting - hope it did do well.

Hi, I had my reversal 8 weeks ago today and it was a lot easier than my first operation, as shamrock said don't be scared and enjoy bottom burping again!!

Just take things at your own pace, my mind was willing but my body wasn't ready.

I had my post operation appointment today and got the all clear and discharged.

All the best
