I was diagnosed in 2010, started Remicade in 2012 and have been symptom free since 2015. Two years of 'no sign of active disease' MREs. My last MRE was just 6months ago. Then last week developed a perianal abscess, fever, and vomiting. Visited the doc this afternoon she stated the abscess is a sign of active disease. Doc also stated that it was also fistulizing. She prescribed cipro and flagyl for 2weeks. She said she wanted a pelvic MRE which she said was different from the last 2 MREs I had. Does anyone know the difference between a Pelvic MRE and a MRE? Also when the doc left and nurse came in to schedule the pelvic MRE she also wanted a creatinine serum blood test at the lab before I left. The nurse didn't know why just the doc wanted it and she couldn't ask the doc because the doc had to leave for an emergency. I looked it up and the blood test was to measure kidney function. I don't know why she would order this I have never had any problem or did I have complaints. Is there another reason for a creatinine serum test?

Were you administered an IV contrast when you had your last MREs? When I have a MRE Enterography they make me drink an oral contrast material and I receive an IV administered contrast material as well. The IV administered contrast is usually an element like gadolinium and is later processed and excreted via your kidneys. A patient with compromised kidneys is usually advised not to receive the contrast.

Just a guess....

Are you still on remicade?
