Well like the title says just got the second colonoscopy done on wed. and still waighting for the histology results to come back from the lab. I have my reservations as to whether or not they will come back positive or negative. Anyway, as expected, the Dr. puts me on a 40mg dose of prednisone again after seeing all the inflammation and also prescribes Asacol 800mg tid that I'm still currently waighting for my pharmacy to get in. They dont generally carry this $300+ medication. My question is last colonoscopy I had they prescribed me azulfidine in a rather large does and it did nothing for me in the three months I used it, and being that both drugs are 5-ASA types whats the chance that this one is going to do anything different?

On a positive note, this second go with prednisone seems to be kicking arse for some reason. I can only guess that the last 5 weeks of xifaxin therapy has taken care of some undesirable bug and now the prednisone is better able to control the inflammation of my large intestine.

Thanks for listening, I'll update with histology results good or bad when I get them.

Some people respond better to different 5-ASA's. So, yes, there is a chance you may have better luck with Asacol. It is definitely worth a shot. And I am happy to hear the pred seems to be working! With the pred and new maintenance med, hopefully you'll be feeling much better soon!

Well 4:32 in the morning and just got done with the bathroom, yeah! I don't think I'm responding to nice to the Asacol very well. Basically since starting this 5-ASA I've noticed an increase in stomach and intestinal disturbances that where not there when I was just on the prednisone post colonoscopy. Best way to describe it is going from a normal stool to a slushy one with increased output. God that sounds disgusting. Thinking about giving it at least a full week, but am thinking that this isn't going to work out. Still waighting on the lab results aswell. Guess I'm starting the coffee this morning a little early.

Well got the lab results back and as expected they came back normal. This is so frustrating knowing something is going on and no test can give me an answere as to what it actually is. The GI DOC told me even though this is the third non-conclusive test that he still strongly believes that this is crohn's based on visual inspection and the symptoms I've described to him. So I got to drop by his office today or monday and pick up two different medication samples he wants me to try now. I think while I'm there I'm going to talk with the nurse and see if we can set up a CT scan to see if that sheds some light on the matter.
