just trying to get some feedback , gi, needs to be more aggressive , since i had 2 obstructions in 6 months and thats a major problem. i assume my pentassa and cipro were not enough, or the fact that 2 bagels caused the partial blockage, last week. anyway, i am lucky to be alive, just sccared of 6 mp , or possible humira. thanx for reading

I'm currently on 50mg of 6MP and its stopped my diarrhea. Its important to get blood work done each month so you know if its affecting the rest of your body in a negative way. I stopped taking it for a couple years after my resection because my insurance stopped paying for it and that's when my diarrhea started and recently its magically covered again so now I'm feeling better. Before they stopped covering it I had been taking it for 10 years at 65mg with no side effects and no damage to my liver or anything else. All other organs are still top notch to this day.

Only problem is that at first when you start taking it you can get every little Tom, Dick and Hairy cold that comes along but for me that usually passes after time and getting a flu shot every year also helps. As long as you get regular blood work done, you'll stay on top of things and should be ok.

thank you so much crabby, i feel less scared now. i dont want any more surguries. my crohns is very aggressive, just pain- blockage, never had loose ovements or any symptoms. anyway, feel well and thank you so

I'm too currently taking 50mg (dropped from 75mg for 2 weeks due to elevated liver enzymes). As Crabby has stated, it's important to keep up with the blood work- it's what showed my elevated ALT for the 2nd time now. Having said that, this drug seems to be the 'one' for me. BM's are reduced by over half, and the cramping and bleeding almost stopped now. At first, and every time I increased my dose, I did suffer with nausea (gastro gave me something to combat this), but that soon subsided as my body began to tolerate the drug. Just bear in mind, that because the information leaflet lists a whole load of side effects, doesn't necessarily mean that you may suffer from them.
Hope this drug works as well for you- surgery was my next step had this not done the trick! Good luck,
Andrea

ty very much welsh bird, glad your doing ok,i will give it a shot, i already had one surgury and close to another, but feel ok now, but i realize i need stronger meds since my crohns is very sneaky and presents itself as pain and partial blockages. ty again. sometimes, i just feel like running away , lol

I've been on 6mp for years

i've had colitis/possibly crohn's since i was 20 and i'm 64. in 2002 i started 6mp (am only on 25 mg./daily) but have not had 1 flare or 1 bout of diarrhea since the day i started on it. i rarely get sick; have fatigue and must nap daily and go to bed early, and have some little red spots all over body and bruise easily, but that's it. have my blood tested regularly and so far (8 yrs.) so good. good luck.

trnrmom- I too have developed a few red spots, on my upper arms and chest. They never bother me- are they linked to the 6MP, and do they have a name?

welsh: don't know the name of the red spots that are associated w/being on 6 mp but if you research that drug, they're indicated as a side effect and probably their technical name is given. bleeding easily and bruising are common for me; even getting my acrylic nail refills, the drill, when going near the cuticle, can cause bleeding. make sure you tell any dr. who's doing any surgery on you about this drug and the bleeding.

Thanks, my gastro put the bruising down to my preds, but I will certainly look up on the red spots- just for my own curiosity. Show's how much notice I took of the info sheet when it was given to me at the pharmacy!

i was taking 6-mp for a while and it was really good pantasa is only a med to keep you in remission 6-mp is aggressive and it gets you in remission so does remicade, humira and cimzia 6-mp isn't anything to be afraid of you just have to go into promethius pannels every month(intensive blood work) but its very effective its too bad my cd was a little more agressive and i had to be switched to remicade and then i developed antibodies and switched to humira i liked it i just had an allergic reaction to it and had to take benadryl before i took it but i wanted to be adventrous and switched to cimzia i can say nothing bad about these meds because they are not onl aggressive to get you into remission but they are safe enough to keep you there too best of luck to you...btw ive been able to stay away from surguries by using 6-mp and the other meds that shoot up into you
