Hi Guys, I was just wondering if any of you have noticed a dramatic increase of acne while on 6MP. I have been on 6MP for about 5 Months now but in the last 8 weeks I have developed a HUGE explosion of acne on my face, shoulders and back. If so how far into the 6mp did this happen and how long did it take to subside (if it did) ?

I am currently taking 75mg of 6MP and 750mg twice daily of Mesasal (Pentasa)

Thanx Guys
Michael

I have acne but I'm 18 so I don't know if it is because of the meds or if it is because of my age.

Hey Mike... have you had your GP or GI look at this outbreak? It's been 8 weeks, so you probably had a chance to see what one or the other think about this. It could be just acne, or it could be a reaction to the meds... but you'd need their opinion on it..

I have acne when I take Prednisone. Usually I go to a skin doctor and he gives me a lotion which helps a bit......

Shows how differently the disease is, and how meds affect us differently. Pred does my skin good.. I have dry patchy skin on my forehead and forearms, and dandruff that just never goes away. however, on pred, all of the above conditions went away

And, for the dry patchy skin pre IBD, my GP used to prescribe a skin creme with 1 1/2 % cortisone in it... More steroids. Course, if you had oily skin, it might make it worse resulting in acne... I just couldn't stand the idea of adding a dermatologist to my list of doctors... And the pred kept me from even having to consider it. Odd!

Well, I noticed a fairly significant increase in acne on my back, neck and face when I started taking Pentasa. I used to never have acne on my back. Also, acne is listed as a side affect of Pentasa in the informational brochure from the pharmacy.
I hate it but it's better than having Crohn's!

Yeah it's strange. I used to have dry, itchy irritation on my eye lids, and now with Prednisone , they are gone. But now, I have acne on my back, shoulders, and forehead......

Acne and 6mp

I'm noticing an increase in acne in my face. I'm not sure if it's the 6mp or other moisturizers/products I use on my face, but definitely have more acne on my face. I was wondering if it was the drug.

This just started happening to me as well. I never have acne but last week, it started on my face. I'm 35 years old so it's a tad embarassing. I don't know if it's the 6MP or maybe the summer heat (it's been in the 90's for 3 weeks). Whatever it is, it really needs to go away now!

Hey I'm on 6mp and have been on it for awhile(I wanna say since Jan so about 5 months) I haven't had any explosions of acne but I have a few more pimples than usual. Mostly on my chin. The main problem I have on 6mp is blood issues...I think it's killing off to many cells so my doctor ordered a blood test yesturday for me.

When I was on 6MP I had Biblical-plague-grade acne and took forever to clear even with a dermatologist treating it.

It affected my hormone levels-ask the doctor to do a hormone count on you. Since you're a guy I'm not sure how they treat it, but for girls they can give low dose hormones. It cleared everything up for me; also I took oral Clindamycin, and used topical Clindamycin and Retin A.

Hope this helps!

I have mild acne on my shoulders, back and chest and it is so frustrating. I've spent hundreds, if not more, on skin products, peels, as well as microdermabrasion, but the acne will not clear up completely. I take 6MP, Allopurinol and Infliximab. Not sure if any of these meds are to blame. I think I'm going to check with my GP and see if I can be given some ab's to help get rid of the problem. My next Infliximab infusion is tomorrow, so I'll take note of how my skin reacts to that.

Hi Guys, I have been on 100mg (daily) of 6 MP and high doses of Pred since 2008 and ache/pimples/spots have not been a concern for me... like a few of you say, think we all react differently.. :)

With pred I get acne really badly on my back. I didn't get anything from 6MP when I had it, nothing with aza. However, remember they are immunosuppressants - with the right circumstances those little microbes will have a field day!
