Hi everyone, sorry not been on as much. We are having some computer issues, so I haven't managed to get online as often.
We had an appointment at the hospital today for Andrew to get blood tests done as a base line for starting the 6mp. The paediatrician saw us and was very nice, he knows I really don't want to start the meds! However Andrew is fed up having this thing on his bottom and I am willing to try the 6mp and see if it helps heal the fistula. If not we will try deal with it surgically as the surgeon "wasn't opposed to surgery" but he wanted us to try meds first.
The prescription should be ready for us to start next week :frown:

HUGS. I don't blame him for not wanting that on his bottom.
You've done such a great job for him. It will be fine.

Hopefully the 6mp will work for him, once you get started with it you will get into the swing of things pretty quickly. I found the worst part was all the bloods and trying to get them scheduled at times that suited. Good luck

Hugs! I hope the 6mp helps! It worked WONDERS for Ryan for 2 years! Really no side effects minus hair loss...but he's got a headful like his Momma, so it didn't really affect him.

Fingers crossed!!

Fingers crossed 6mp will work well and do its job for him. We have just past the 6 week mark of starting 6mp and (apart from a little nausea, and a strange rash!) I think we have turned a corner. Ds had no complaints of pain for a couple weeks.

Good Luck.

Xxxx

Good luck with the 6mp, hope it all goes well. Done great for Kian so i hope it does the same for your wee guy. xxxx

EJ was on it for a little over a year w/o any side effects. Just another pill! Wish he could have stayed on it forever!

hopet he 6mp works for andrew. lewis may have to start 6mp if the aza continuess to lower his bloods .. keep us updated hun . xxgood luck

Heard from the IBD nurse finally! The prescription is ready :(, I will go collect it tomorrow. Starting at 25mg 6mp for a week, then 50mg, then 75mg. Really hope his body copes with it so we don't have to change again just when I got my head wrapped round this.
On a sad note - Andrew's calprotectin has come back at around 650. Although I am upset it is increasing again (it was 160), at least it makes me feel like the 6mp is necessary rather than just something to try to heal his fistula.

Lots of hugs... I know how tough it is to wrap our heads around these meds! But, totally understand re calprotectin levels. sorry they've raised recently but it is a reaffirmation that starting on the 6MP is the right thing to do! :ghug: :ghug:

Sorry to hear that about the calprotectine levels. I hope the meds work and he tolerates them well without side effects.

Thanks everyone. First 25mg taken last night, so far so good! Dodie - it is tablets I asked for since Andrew is older and able to take tablets, it seemed daft to have a horrible taste if unnecessary!

I asked as we were given the liquid, probably because Kian started off on a very small dose and only takes 1.3ml now as he at the therapeutic level so finger crossed it stays like that, just got blood results other day and all is good. I hope Andrew gets on good also on the 6mp. xx

Thanks for checking :ysmile:. So far so good, on 50mg this week, bloods tomorrow then 75mg if everything ok. Saw the surgeon on Monday, he is happy to leave things while there is no problem, but will check up in 6 months. If surgery ever necessary will probably do a plug and irritation of the fistula canal.

Well, bloods were great again this week so we are up to 75mg. Fingers and toes crossed that he can tolerate this so we don't have to worry about what's next.
Got my wedding invitation to my cousin's wedding in Germany . I am soo excited as I haven't seen any of my cousins (they stay in America) since I was 9 - and yes that was a long time ago :ack:
Because the wedding is on a Thursday, I get to go BY MYSELF to Germany for 2 nights, see a friend who lives there, go to a wedding and then stay in a 5 star hotel where the reception is (my mother has kindly said she would pay for that one night ). Wow - haven't had time away by myself for 14 years

Glad everything's going good for Andrew.

Wow you get to go to Germany on your own and stay in a 5 star hotel.....ENJOY you deserve it.
