Having IBD all my life I've never been a normal weight for my age or size. I've always been underweight and even most times very underweight especially in a flare. But, this last week I happened to weigh myself at home and searched to see what a "normal" weight would be for me. Come to find out, I'm only 5lbs away!

I know this isn't a big deal for most people. But, I knew you guys would understand! So, just wanted to share!

Congrats, and I totally do understand! I tend to lose weight when I flare, and gain when I'm getting healthy again. So it sounds to me like you must be doing pretty well if you're able to gain a bit of weight. I know you've had a lot of stress lately so that's great that you're able to gain a bit of weight even during these stressful times!

Yeah, that's why it was a bit of a surprise to me that I'd gotten that far! I'm afraid though for me that it's a whole lot easier to lose weight than gain it. So, I know exactly where you're going. Life's been pretty crazy here for sure. I'll just be thankful when it calms down some.

I've recently thought wow I'm guess I'm glad I had a little extra weight since now I'm losing it and I'm sure will be more after surgery. Weight issues are such a hard thing and people so judge you both ways. People see that I'm losing weight and like to say wow you're looking great.....if they only knew.

After my first flare, my wife thought it would be good for me to put on extra weight for the next time I flared.

A "normal" weight

Isn't it weird how these things happen, I saw on my Facebook memories today that it was a year ago this week that I had my first dietitian appointment. She put me on a weight gain program (which was one of the hardest things I've ever forced myself to do) and I subsequently lost 2 pounds in 2 days lol!! [emoji23]

Certainly not having that issue these days! I've gained a stone and a half and I'm a stone off what I weighed before all this started! There is light at the end of the tunnel! [emoji28]

Big well done to you, it is SO much more difficult than people realise to gain weight!

I'm afraid I had to look up what a stone was to pounds!!! Yeah, I know what you mean. I figured especially since I'm getting closer and closer to the 40 mark, it'd be probably a good idea to see if I could get myself to a "healthy weight."

Funny thing is that when I do mention about only being 5 pounds away from a healthy weight, people around me say that I didn't look too bad before. If they only knew.....

I know exactly what you mean. I had people commenting on my weight loss who I didn't see that much and didn't think on it too much. I've seen them since and they've confessed how much healthier I look!

Whilst I was very slim before I wasn't quite skin & bone, but my skin was grey and I just looked completely lacklustre. Although I'm heavier I'm so much happier!

We need to be writing articles for women's magazines! Some of the utter tripe I've seen in those.....but that's another story!
