Hi everyone :)

I am currently undiagnosed IBD awaiting investigation. Just wanted other people's opinions/experiences.

Last night, I awoke with extreme central abdominal pain which caused me to vomit. I was doubled up in pain and unable to stand straight to walk to the bathroom. I had 3 bowel movements around the time of the pain which were not loose or difficult to pass.
The pain was a constant with an intermittent stabbing feeling every so often. It lasted around 2 hours and I was able to get back to sleep, waking this morning feeling normal.

I was wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience? I am also awaiting investigation for suspected gall stones - does anyone know if this could be linked? Should I visit my GP regarding this even though I have been referred to gastroenterology and am awaiting an appointment? I am away on holiday at the moment so wouldn't be able to attend for a few weeks.

Thanks in advance

Hi rebma25.

If a gallstone moves into the sphincter it could cause the pain you describe. But Crohn's may also be the cause of that pain. I would think that it is more likely to be a gallstone since the pain stayed for a couple of hours then in the morning the pain was gone. Since you are on vacation. I'm not sure your GP could do much at this point. I would get in to the G.I. and have the G.I. handle it. However, if the pain is so bad you can't wait, then I might go to be GP for pain management.

How long is it until you see the gastroenterologist, and are these symptoms new for you?

If these are new symptoms - i.e. your GP doesn't know about them - and it's a while until you see the gastro, it might be worth checking with your GP to make sure you don't need a more urgent referral.

It could be anything up to 12 weeks till I see my gastroenterologist! I am a new referral and am not an urgent referral so I imagine it will take some time.

I've suffered from intermittent abdominal pain before, but I would any this was new as I haven't been woken by it and nor has it ever been that painful.
