Hey,

I'm new to the forum so let me introduce myself quickly.
I'm 18, have had Crohn's since I was 12. Have been on Prednisone (and am on it currently again), Remicade (anaphalactic shock), Humira (non responsive), 6-MP (and am on it again currently), Sulfasalazine, Salofalk.

So now I'm on 40mg of prednisone after a 3 week stay at the hospital and am feeling better daily for the most part. I started 6-MP today as well, on a 50/75 alternating dose. I'll start tapering the prednisone in 2 weeks, and continue on the 6-MP. The thing is, I started the 6-MP 2 days ago, along with my Zinc supplements. Now I've read that abdominal pain is a potential side effect for both, and since I started on them, I've been having a bit of pain again. My question is, have any of you 6-MP users had the same problem with it, and do you have a recommendation as for when in the day to take it, with or without food, and what foods perhaps?

I look forward to hearing from you :)
All the best,
Elijah

I never had abdominal pain from taking it and I took it for four years. It can cause kidney problems though so if you get any pain from that area then I would call the doctor immediately. I took 6-mp in the morning when I woke up or at night. Also a hot compress may help.

Also wanted to welcome you to the forum. If you want you can post a little about yourself in the new to the forum section at the very top. Good luck and I'm glad you found us.

Hello :)

I had the same problem as you did with Remicade (very scary)
My doctor put me on Azathioprine and I have had to come off it straight away as it has gone for my liver and given me jaundice. You really need to be careful if you have abdominal pain as thats what I had along with vomitting, itchy skin, headaches. Make sure they are testing your liver results when they are checking your blood tests each week.
I know 6MP is not aza but its much the same and has a lot of the same side affects, doctor was ready to swap me on to it because of my sickness but said it would do the same thing.
I hope it works for you, but contact your doctor if symptoms get worse.
