Oh man,I've got another bloody abscess coming out of side stoma seems to be happening every 8 wks,doc thinks there could be a sack in there that keeps getting infected, was feeling so well to damn it.got specialist app on 14 th June,on flucloxacillin now, this brute is a painful one when I'm going to :poo: as it passes thru.no peas or corn for tea tonight.has anyone had to deal with these, what was best result that worked for you

Get yourself some polysporin with the anesthetic in it, dab that on a gauze pad the size of the opening and put that over the abscess and then put your flange on top. The polysporin has an antibiotic in it as well, and it will relieve the pain for you too. Hope this helps!

It's just draining from edge of stoma can't see anything,it's not an open wound I think it's from in deep, the dreaded f word.fistula.

I had an abscess next to my stoma 2 weeks ago. My surgeon took me into surgery and opened it up by making 2 small incisions that drained into my bag. It worked well for me. All I had to do is cut the opening wider buy those incision to make sure it could drain. I did that for 2 weeks.

Is that abscess skin related? As you mentioned, could it be a fistula? Have you seen your GI about this specific condition or was it a GP that prescribed the flucloxacillin?

I had to deal with a series of fistulae (and probably abscesses) in periphery of my stoma. It incredibly hurts! Do you have a purple-ish area ? Mine would be let say 2-3 cm wide circle that were really painful when touching it and then it would open up and that would bring a lot of relief but... implied the formation of a fistula....

I'm pretty sure it's a fistula I can feel hard buildup under skin, this a bit of a yucky question, has any one had pus leakage out of rectum,I usually get cleanish mucus once/twice week but also get quite lot of pus looking mucus come out periodically,I've had anal/vgg fistulas before so have scarrs n holes all over from surgerys,MRI scan hopefully will show some thing,I've been so lucky last few years, does anyone think that doing to much physical stuff can bring them on,

Hi Jo-b, I don't have abscesses around my stoma or pus from bottom though I do get mucus occasionally. I don't think doing to much physical stuff would bring them on, I just think you have an underlying problem there that keeps rearing its ugly head. I would definitely mention the pus to your GI cos that is not normal and there may be something they can do about it - it may be related to the abscess around your stoma???

:sign0085:Still on antibiotics, still waiting for MRI scan to see what happens next, have upped Vit C for immunity,is trying to up the immune system ok with us crohnies as our immune system is so up and down, anyway would love to hear from someone who has had success at beating these evil things, surgeon said likely that I will have stoma moved to other side and rest of bowel and rectum be removed, again has anyone had this procedure done,Any advise would be awesome thanks

Well, I had to get my stoma moved to the other side after 10 years of having it (2 years of dealing with multiple fistula that were probably originating from the same abscess this whole time). They had in mind to remove the remaining of rectum/anus at the same time but for question of fertility they let it there and I'll need another operation in the future to remove that.

I don't know if you had your first stoma from an open surgery (it was my case) so they just reopened my previous scar line and took the stoma and moved it from one side to the other. The fistula tracks and old ostomy site were left open to heal from inside out. It is done this way to prevent the formation of infection from underneath the skin since these are not the cleanest skin tissues in the world, it's better to proceed that way I have been told. The open scar will be closed though. I hurts, I won't try to say otherwise but I too was in a better shape (even though it still was bad) than when I had my colectomy. It makes the recovery go faster.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Having MRI next Friday (yay)how long did you stay in hospital, also how long did you take to heal old site,I had open surgery, have you had any trouble with fistulas since op.

:ybatty:Well MRI says there are no fistula or absess can't quite believe that as pus is draing out of stoma when not on antibiotic, plus my sphincter is not working plus a large hernia so movin stoma across the street guess I wait for the gods that be to decide when to operate.ain't life grand

Sorry it did not respond back faster, I missed the post you wrote in between. I was in the hospital for 5 days following the relocation surgery. The sites were open (3 fistulas tracks, the old ostomy site) and the open surgery site was closed (it ended up reopening due to infection but that is a whole other story). I was on anti-tnf prior to surgery, I caught a streptococcus in my wounds and well, it seems my surgeon never got the report from the cultures and I've remained untreated until I cross transmitted the streptococcus to my throat so I had to consult and get penicillin for it. So the whole infection resolved and my wounds all closed within a few days. I took me two months to have my open wounds closed but keep in mind that the adventure mentioned just above took about 6 weeks. So I assume that it should have been fine within 3 weeks at the most for the healing inside out. It went really really fast once the infection was out of the way. It's been 15 months now and so far I have not dealt with any issues, no disease manifestations nada and I am not on any treatment. I get check ups every 3 months and so far so good. I monitor my food closely and avoid any unhealthy stresses.
