Hi everyone. I haven't written in a while.
I've been depressed lately. I have had 5 abscesses in the past month and a half. I currently have two superficial ones right now. I had surgery for one, and had a seton put it place, yet they are still coming. I don't understand why I am getting so many. They hurt :frown: The first seton was about to come out, so I had to get another one put in it's place. This new one is bigger than the one I had in to begin with, and it was very painful to get in (my dr did it in his office while I was awake

Thanks for listening. Anyone have any advice, it would be greatly appreiated!

It is not surprising that you are depressed, you poor old thing. This is a very painful situation to be enduring and needs some investigating if it has not already been done.
Have you had blood work done to see why this might be happening?
Sometimes diabetes can be a culprit.Sometimes vitamin deficiencies ----
Have you been diagnosed with IBD, Crohn's etc.
Hope you will soon be feeling better.
Hugs and best wishes

I have been diagnosed with Crohns. The dr took a swab of the puss of one of my abscesses. I took an antibiotic for a bit but obviously it hasn't worked.

Abscesses have to be drained , to provide optimal effects from the antibiotics.
Abscess formation is one of the effects of Crohn's.
Hope you have a good GI team to help you get better soon.
Hugs

Hi Meatball. I'm really sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with abscesses :-( Pop over here:

We've got a sticky at the top of the subforum with some advice about dealing with abscesses and maybe ways of getting some relief. And plenty of others like yourself who unfortunately have to battle this awful aspect of Crohn's who will be able to empathise and offer some advice from their experiences.

Thats horrible having lots all around the same time. Are they all different ones or are they reaccurring in the same place?
Are your GI team coming up with any long term plan? If they are not already doing so I think you should try to get an MRI scan to find the cause, it could be that you have fitulas which is why an infection occurs, causing the abscess.
Good luck with everything and let us know how it goes :)

I'm sorry i never saw this last reply. I finally got an mre (diff from MRI, but not to sure how). There is a fistula there. So now i go soon to have a second seton put in. They found i do have crohns in my pouch, small intestine above the pouch, and stomach. Also i have chronic gastritis with erosions. We will talk treatment (most likely remicade) after seton placement. Thanks for all of your support!
