I had a colon resection in june. It was all going well until I got an abscess. That abscess got a jp drain. The drain either put a hole in my intestine or fistulized to my intestine.

I had surgery to repair the hole in august. One month later, we were really hopeful. Then I got another abscess. I got a jp drain and iv antibiotics. I had the iv for over a month with unasyn and oral levaquin. Then I got my picc removed and was switched to cipro and augmentin. I've been on antibiotics continuously since September 21 when I got my drain placed.

I feel great. No fever. No pain. No nausea. But I developed a bubble on my incision which "popped" and is draining pus. I have a CT scan tomorrow. I may need another drain.

I am on imuran and have completed 3 infusions of remicade.

But my issue is -- I have been on antibiotics time and time again I still get abscesses. Has anyone else had issues like this? What is the next step? What was tried? What helped you?

I've had issues in the past with abscesses and fistulas.
I'd see if Remicade might be an option for you.
Sending you my support.

I should have mentioned I am on imuran and have completed 3 doses on remicade

But thank you!

Oh, sorry it hasnt been effective. It may take a bit longer from my understanding.

I've had repeated problems with perianal abscesses - during one flare I had one abscess after another for months. There was nothing to be done except repeated courses of antibiotics and surgery when necessary. I finished up with four fistulas between the bowel and skin, held open with setons to allow drainage. Two eventually closed on their own after the setons were removed, one closed after a couple more procedures to help it along. Ten years later I still have one open fistula which I've chosen not to let a surgeon try to close - it was so much pain and trouble the first time around that I'd rather put up with the inconvenience than risk further damage to the muscles in the area. Now I'm on to the GP for antibiotics as soon as I feel the first hint of problems in the area.
