Hi,

A small bowel X-ray series recently showed that I have adhesions in scar tissue, and that might be causing some of my discomfort. I had surgery a little over two years ago, and have had Crohn's for about 12 years.

I'm wondering if adhesions form only in the scar tissue after surgery, or if the general scar tissue formed by years of Crohn's can lead to the same thing? I'm trying to figure out a little pain-timeline.... :]

I am meeting with my surgeon next week to (reluctantly) hear his thoughts on a possible laparoscopic (hopefully nothing more...) procedure to break up the scar tissue. Anyone gone through something similar or have any opinions?

Thanks!

I was just hospitalized with an obstruction that my doctor attributed to adhesions. He said that they can be caused by Crohn's inflammation as well as surgery.

So sorry to hear about the hospitalization! Hope you are feeling much better now.

Thanks for the info on how they form; very helpful.

At my upcoming appointment we are going to talk about.... determining the severity and appropriate reaction, I guess? I'm not too familiar with adhesions, but am really hoping this doesn't require anything major.

I have really really bad adhesions ;( I recently had abdominal surgery to remove my uterus and they couldn't because I had so many adhesions. However, they spent 3 1/2 hours breaking adhesions apart and I feel SO SO SO much better. Pain is way down, energy is way up. This was open surgery. I doubt I would have been able to convince my dr's to just do a surgery for adhesions, but I seriously have not felt this good in about 5-7 years. I think that there needs to be a LOT more research into the problem of adhesions. And I hope that you have been able to figure out how best to treat yours ... I think each case is different, but it's been four months now since I had the surgery and I just continue to feel better ...
