Adhesions?

I know there are several posts about adhesions on here, but I wanted to ask folks a couple of questions. I have an extremely gurgly gi tract , especially after surgery 2 years ago. Lately, the pain in the lrq has resurfaced a little, and seems to shift and gurgle more when I press on that area. The docs think its probably adhesions, and that its likely not a flare b/c I have no indicators of inflammation on bloodwork. I am just curious what others' experience and thoughts are on this subject. I didn't know until last week that these adhesions could wrap around the intestine and constrict it or change its overall direction/orientation/etc.

I've had adhesion in the past that have caused strictures. I needed surgery to repair it.

It's difficult because as you point out adhesions can have different actions on the bowel; constrictive or pulling etc. It sounds like your referring to scar tissue within the pelvis rather than within the bowel lumen? The former type can be attached to other organs in the vacinity too such as the bladder, which again varies the presentation. That said the majority of adhesions are not symptomatic, and where they are the picture can be further complicated by neural and localised inflammatory responses etc.

Pain isn't straightforward even in healthy individuals, when you have pathology and a surgical history it can be even more complex. It would be interesting to know if other people assoicated gurgling with adhesions, I didn't myself. The pain (only with hindsight after they'd been removed) that I attributed to adhesions was sharp and intense. Personally I'd maintain a little skeptism about the cause of your pain at this stage. If it's getting to you then a laparoscopy (if it is the outside of the bowel) would discover scar tissue. I hope the pain improves!
