I have been suffering off and on for about 10 years or so. My symptoms are not that bad from what I read here. I have burning on my lower right side almost constant. There are times that I will eat something and it will send me straight to the bathroom but that will only happen like once a week maybe twice..The doctor has put me on Entocort, Pentasa but he also wants to put me on a 6mp and that one really really scares me.

Any advice?

Do a Colonoscopy. Its vital! There is no point treating what "might" be. Tell you Doctor you want to have a colonoscopy to know what you are dealing with. Make sure he accesses the Ilieum, if he cant, then do an endoscopy as well. Before taking any meds, you NEED an accurate diagnosis.

If you have already had a Colonoscopy and have been diagnosed with CD or UC then thats a different story. There is much information here regarding 6MP and many will be more than happy to share their knowledge and experience.

Welcome to the forums :)

Can I ask what scares you about 6-mp? And as the guy above me said a colonscopy would be your first step as I dont see how you can be on meds unless youve been diagnosed? Or have you been and suffering with diagnosed crohns for 10 years?

Also dont worry about how people describe symptoms here as everyvody's idea of how things feel are very different and many people are at very different stages of the disease. Best of luck.

colonoscopy

I have been suffering for about ten years undiagnosed. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy in August and was diagnosed.... I went for a second opinion last month and had a ct scan with contrast of the small intestines where is is showing narrowing in a couple of places. So I got confirmation.

What scares me about the 6mp are the side effects.

ok - I have to put in here - NOT ALL have side effects.....I was on 6-mp for years with no problems.....stopped it because Remicade works so well.....

I think what you need to do is read up on the medication and the POSSIBLE side effects and have a good talk with your doctor.......

Ive been on imuran since december of last year and besides nausea at the start no sode effects since either. I was meaning which side effects specifically because all drugs have them including tylenol however it is rare to see the worst of them. In my opinion the risks of imuran and remicade for me are better than feeling sick everyday, bein underweight, malnurished, and urgency. Talk to your doctor and work out benefits with risks.

I have only been on 6mp for about 6 wks but so far it is working great. I will admit I felt awful the first week but after that no problems at all.
