Hi I just recently had a resection about 2 weeks ago. the right side of my stomach is swollen again and my back hurts. does it take time for this to go down? I was under the impression that the resection was to take that out and I wouldn't be having issues down there once my Incision healed. Which my incision is fine my but right side is swollen again along with back pain. Maybe my expectations were not accurate.. Anyone have this happen after resection.. Is any of this normal or not?? I have my follow up appointments for my Gi and my surgeon on Thursday I did contact them today and they said as long as I'm able to keep down food and am not throwing up I would still be ok to just come in Thursday. I'm new to Crohn's all this has happened within 2 months.

It takes much longer than two weeks to settle down after major surgery
It is very good that you have an appointment with the surgeon for checkup...the timing is correct and while you are there ask about further appointments for follow up.
When I had the right Colon removed it took eight months to get back back to nearly normal....if there is such a thing as normal with crohns...
Feel better soon

OMG!!!! It's like you read my mind....I had my resection 1 week ago tomorrow and my right side and my back is killing me!!! I have been crying off and on all day thinking what could be wrong...of course my incision is not healed just yet but I would love to know as well if this is normal.

Sorry to hear about your pain.

To be honest the last two resections I had, the back pain was way beyond any front pain !

Even when still connected to the morphine machine a few days after surgery, it did nothing to touch it. I think it is probably a result of either (a) the surgeon poking around (bit like this - :voodoo: ) or (b) lying for a long time in one position on a rock-hard table in the operating theatre.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Thanks so much for the replies. I am a little relieved it sounds like this is normal and I just need to wait it out. Hopefully it all subsides soon.

I have also had back pain a couple of times since my surgery. If you are worried, best to ring the hospital. Good luck!

I had my first resection Nov 18th so 2 weeks today. I am still in hospital. I have had 3 blood transfusions, A drain put in my abdomen for an abscess, and a picc line so they can feed me. They believe there is a leak at the joined part of the bowel, however they also think it could be blood so they are keeping me off all fluids and foods for now. I haven't eaten in 8 days which doesn't really bother me but I haven't had a drink in 8 days either. Has anyone else had a complication like this. I'm so nervous they are going to have to take me back to surgery. Also my back pain is so bad as well.
