I have read a lot about aloe vera and how it is very helpful for digestive problems. Any experiences with this?

my crohns doc about Aloe Vera and he said that in his opinion it wouldn't really do that much for my crohns. I suppose it may do for someone else, but he was sure it wouldn't benefit me.

I took aloe pills for a few weeks... I didn't see much of a difference.

Worked wonders for me

Hey there,

I have Crohn's and just went through a pretty big flare up in Oct 2006. I tried AMP (Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharide) an ingredient of Aloe Vera in freeze dried form. It worked miraculously. I took it and the very next day, my cramps and bleeding were noticebly less. After a few days I had virtually no symptoms. I couldn't believe it.

Anyway, I'm not selling this stuff (or anything), but was so affected by it that I wanted to put something together to possibly help others. I've heard some other stories since then, and it seems largely positive. I know it doesn't work for everyone but it does for quite a few so it's worth check out.

I put together a website, AloeReviews.com to allow people to talk about the different Aloe Vera products, as there are a lot and there is no regulation on this stuff. If you have any stories or experience with Aloe Vera, please stop in and post something.

Cheers,
Chris.

Hey! I was told to drink Aloe Juice... but I never started it and told myself I would if things got completely unbearable. Well things got unbearable for a while but I still didn't drink it just because I was sure that I could be worse off. ANYWAYS... I still have the bottle of Aloe Juice and haven't taken any because while I did read that it was helpful, its sort of addicting. By addicting I don't mean its like nicotine or cocaine, but it makes you feel good so you end up wanting it to make you feel better (who wouldn't?) and then you can't get off the stuff... it seems like there was something written in this article I read that said that huge amounts of Aloe Juice were dangerous. I don't remember why... but yeah I just never started taking mine.

EDIT: I went on Mayoclinic.com and found out what I read

"The use of aloe or aloe latex by mouth for laxative effects can cause cramping or diarrhea. Use for over seven days may cause dependency or worsening of constipation after the aloe is stopped. Ingestion of aloe for over one year has been reported to increase the risk of colorectal cancer. Individuals with severe abdominal pain, appendicitis, ileus (temporary paralysis of the bowel), or a prolonged period without bowel movements should not take aloe. There is a report of hepatitis (liver inflammation) with the use of oral aloe.

Electrolyte imbalances in the blood, including low potassium levels, may be caused by the laxative effect of aloe. This effect may be greater in people with diabetes or kidney disease. Low potassium levels can lead to abnormal heart rhythms or muscle weakness. People with heart disease, kidney disease, or electrolyte abnormalities should not take aloe by mouth. Healthcare professionals should monitor for changes in potassium and other electrolytes in individuals who take aloe by mouth for more than a few days. "

here's the link to the actual page http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/aloe-vera/NS_patient-Aloe

So basically I read of its "amazing" laxative effect and I decided that I didn't need more D than I already had... but it seems good for those with C

For me personally ~ aloe juice made me have even more diarrhea ~ so I stopped immediately. Not going to take soemthing that makes me spend even more time on my toilet!!! But that is just my experience and each body is different!

Soem time after my last post on this subject, my hubby tried some of the aloe vera juice as he's into healthy alternatives and he said it didn't make him feel any different it just increased his bowel movements. It actually says on the tub that it has a laxative effect, can't really imagine that being helpful for people with IBD
