Aloha from Hawaii everyone. I am a 22 year old graduate student at the University of Hawaii studying intercultural communications. I was diagnosed with Crohns when I was 8 years old. For the past 15 years or so I have been through it all just like the rest of you-arthritis, irititis, skin rashes, the works.

My last flare-up was this past October and was by far the worst one I have ever had. It took months to get things back under control and out of my hell but now things are going great and I am enjoying my normal, adventurous life in the islands. I am slowly being taken off Imuran to see if I can sustain myself on just Asacol and so far so good.

I think the worst part of this disease is not the pain that we have to go through but the problems it can cause with our families and friends. It is a very difficult thing to deal with and I am grateful to have a fantastic boyfriend to carry me around when my arthritis kicks in :)

I would love to chat with people about what they are going through, offer advice, and even talk with parents who have children with this disease. It is difficult to have to see your children go through these things and I since I was only a child when I was diagnosed, I know how difficult it can be for them as well. Right now the only concern I have is having children while on the meds. You hear so many different stories that you never know what to believe. FYI-not pregnant now but I do want to have children some day and this is always in the back of my mind. Anyhow-look forward to chatting with you.

What meds are you on?

Welcome to the forum. Everyone here is great and supportive and have helped me numerous times with my depression.

Ask any questions you want.

How are you doing now?

Aloha, Crystal

I was just diagnosed at age 36, and it amazes me to think that you have had this since age 8. I am glad you are down from your recent flare-up - that sounded awful.

I live on Maui. You're lucky to be located closer to an urban center - my main concern so far with the management of the disease is finding a good doctor. Heck, a doctor who will call me back would be a major step in the right direction!

Nice to meet you and take care!
