Am I ready for Remicade

Hi All,
This is my first post and with your indulgence, I’d like to ask a few questions. First some background: I was diagnosed with Crohns in 1999 and have been relatively successful in controlling it with Pentasa all this time (I’m 47 now). In the past two years, I’ve had 2 occasions of extreme abdominal pain. This past August it was bad enough to land me in the hospital with a partial obstruction. A steroid cocktail knocked down the inflammation and I was sent home a couple days later. I was on Imuran for a couple weeks but had some nasty side effects. Now, I am back on Pentasa only, but my doctor says that I should go on Remicade. I average 2-3 BMs a day, and of course I have good and bad days. So my questions are:

Does it sound like I’m ready for Remicade? I’m not looking for a professional opinion, just that I don’t feel like my symptoms are that bad.

What exactly is a flare up? Can it range from minor cramps to extreme abdominal pain? I figured you all would know this better than the Docs.

Have any of you read the book, tried the program “Self Healing Colitis & Crohns” by David, Klein? I’m think about trying this before I do the chemicals.

Thanks for your help.
I hope you are all doing well

Thanks Pen,
You gave me some good answers. I've read many of your posts and they've been very helpful too. I will look into the Entocort. You're right about me being squeamish. It's my adventure with Imuran that made me that way. I've never had a problem with drugs in the past, but I missed work because of the side effects: Severe headache, 102 fever, aches and pains, dizziness, ringing in the ears. Also, I haven't heard many wonderful things about Remicade. That's not to say I wouldn't give it a go. But it seemed to me that my Dr was taking the leap too soon. But maybe I'm missing something. Thanks again. I'll be talking to my Dr.
