Hello! Just got the report from Amy’s surgeon. Everything went well. Surgery was about 4.5 hours. She had some adhesions and considerable inflammation and edema both in the pouch and also a little above the pouch, which was expected, but he felt that they got everything out no problem, and a nice stoma. She was stable throughout the procedure and will skip the ICU and go straight from the recovery room to her overnight room. She wanted me to convey that she is very grateful for the love and support she’s received from everyone, and I appreciate it as well. This forum has definitely been beneficial for her! We’ll have more updates tomorrow. Thanks!

Hubbers/Levi

Hi everyone! It's now day two and I already feel tons better than yesterday! My ass is a little sore but the surgeon said that's to be expected.

My biggest complaint so far is the new food service my hospital is using - the keep forgetting to put Jello on my tray! And when you're only on clear liquids, a cup of Jello is a really big deal!

I also got my period which makes it totally sucky - having a cath bag and trying to use a tampon (sorry guys for the TMI).

Other than that, all is well and I am really please how things are going so far!

Thanks for all your support and well wishes. Means the world to me!

xo xo xo - Ames

Hey Amy, yayy!!! you sound great!!! Stay well and give them hell if they miss your jello off the menu again!!!! :)

Big squashy hugs for you Ames

Lots of love

Paula

Yay!! You've done it, the worst part is over and now its going to get better and better every day! :D Sympathies about the 'mother nature' part, im afraid mine will come then too, or im hoping im aenemic enough that it will decide to skip this month! lol!
Glad you've had it done and its gone well, I'm right behind ya! :)

That is great that you are feeling better than yesterday! I am so happy for you :) That is the worst to get your monthly visitor at a time like this :p I hope things continue to improve and that you have a very speedy recovery!!

I'm so glad it went well! I'm having flashbacks to my surgery 11 months ago hearing about yours.
I guess sore is good - mine was so numb, I did not feel anything. I think they cut some nerves or something!

Did you take a peak at your new equipment yet? I remember my first peak, just a weird feeling - like wow - it really happened.

Enjoy your jello and keep feeling better!

OMG..that's so funny...I got my period the second day after my surgery too....lol What's with the timing?? Like you don't have enough to worry about! Glad you're feeling better :) When are you expecting to get out of hospital?

Amy, keep some jello for me!
Am so pleased to hear thing's are going well for you- so deserved!
Take your recovery easy and listen to what your docs have to say, I hope that you're back home soon.
Your soon to be bag buddy xx

Ames!
Wow, I cannot believe you are already posting! I am so, so glad things are going well (except for the *^|€¥ mother nature! She probably snuck a gray hair in too!). Hon, just steal somebody else's tray! You need your jello!
Michele

I'm with Michele...steal some jello! Love it that you're back online and posting so soon too! Dont overdo it though!
Hugggggsss,
Misty

Amy - I am so happy you are doing so well. You sound terrific! I hope you feel better and better each day. Praying for a speedy recovery!

So glad for the update and even more glad she is doing well! Give her a hug from all of us!

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Yay, Amy! You sound so positive and happy in your post, which isn't abnormal for you, but it's good to hear the recovery is going well so far!

I can empathize with you about mother nature. When I was put in the hospital, before my diagnosis, they made me stop taking my birth control, and so of course, I started my period. I didn't have a catheter, of course, but it's not exactly the optimal thing that can happen when you're going in for all sorts of tests down in the nether regions. I wasn't even allowed to wear a tampon. That was sure fun...NOT! Haha.

Next time you order Jell-O, you should stockpile and then keep it in the fridge on the floor. Haha. I don't know if your hospital is like the one I was at, but we were allowed to keep some food in the refrigerated area as long as we labeled it with our names. My mom would go and bring me popsicles and juice all the time.

Today I am feeling even better surgery-wise but I had a little issue with my catheter. There was a clot on the end blocking it completely - so my bladder was backed up and not emptying. HOLY CRAP! Pain level - on a scale of one to ten, it was a twelve. They replaced the cath and I got immediate relief. But in those 15 minutes it took to figure it out and get is replace, I thougth I was going to die.

And the, the most gorgeous specimen of man walked in - the attending physician for the day. His name.... are you ready?.... is Artistotle Sophocles. And he looks like a greek god! I thought my mother was going to faint when she saw him. Seriously, we were both trying so hard not to stare. YOu just don't often see such good looking men in person!

I'm tired now because I feel like my bladder ran a marathon!!

Thanks for the continuing well-wishes. Means a lot to me.

OMG.....greek god for a doctor....it would make you think you died and went to heaven! lol.....

Glad to hear you are doing so well!...yes, Mother Nature sure does have a sick sense of humor and bad timing at times!.....ouch on the bladder issue - I remember when I had my daughter, they pulled the catheter (I had a c-section) - and then I couldn't go.....that was PAINFUL having to much stored up! .....

Get some rest, we will all hear from you soon I bet!

Greek God

Seriously! You must be feeling good, to be checking out the guys! LOL!!! I bet you feel tons better. I remember when I got my colon out the first time, I thought...OMG! This is what it feels like to be healthy?! You are such an inspiration, keep us posted, keep laughting!
Heres your medal!!!

Ames, clearly you are well on the road to recovery. I mean...if you notice a 'hunk of burning love' walking in...it's always a good sign. Even if you're in pain. (Me..my first thought would be...did I wax...**** no, I look like a yeti...crap!) I'm glad you are feeling better, but I'm sorry you had probs with a cath. Seriously though...you need a good pee..let er rip!

Good to hear it's going so well Amy!! If you're drooling over Dr. Sophocles and changing your tag-line, you must be doing great:). Shine on you beautiful diamond!!

Ha, Amy so happy you are doing well! Get some rest, it is the most important. You are still my hero!

I remember I was having a gall bladder attack and the attending physican was in and he was gorgeous but it wasnt me who noticed it was my mom, I was in too much pain. Poor me, I am there in pain and she is staring at the doctor lol. I remind her of that all the time..Incidently his wife works in the same hospital, yep my mom was crushed lol.

Amy, it's good to see you on the forum. I'm glad things went well. You are a hero to many of us. Please take it easy girlfriend!

Hi Amy! Sorry for not posting sooner. I hope you are recovering well and enjoying your weight in Jello. I'm surprised that they have you eating so soon. I was NPO for nearly a week after my surgery. Have a restful and speedy recovery!!

Dan

That bladder problem sounded horrible. Good look getting out of there today. I know I could not wait to get home, and felt so much better. Just take it easy and give it time to heal.
I found the UOAA forum valuable, in additional to this one, to learn everything I could about ostomy care and feeding.
What brand equipment did they train you on?

Sorry I missed this post Amy! Just been a bit busy with my own life/health. You know how it goes.

So glad to hear you are doing well! Keep it up!

Hi all - Just wanted to pop in to say hi. I am sorry I haven't been able to post much. I am home now and cannot sit up at all, so it's hard to type lying down!!!!

I was not expecting the pain from sewing up my anus. I don't want to scare anyone but it is excrutiating. I am having a hard time controlling it with the pain pills. Not surprisingly, the attendings in the hosp told me to use Advil to help with the swelling. Ugh. I have been using it intermittently out of desperation.

It's really frustrating because aside from the ass pain, I can't find a comfortable position and my legs are starting to get sore from overcompensating.

Other than that, my incision is healing nicely and isn't causing me hardly any pain, my stoma is good looking and functioning well. My parents are here helping out and everything my mom brings me is like the best thing I ever ate. It is a huge help to have them here and I don't know how we'd do it with out them. They are the best!!!

Hope everyone else has been doing okay. Please forgive me for my absence - I'm sure you all understand!!

Just a thought. Is the anal pain more internal or external because there are local anaesthetic gels/creams that numb the area which work really well. They are used for anal fissures etc - like lidocaine cream. Wouldn't really work if it was more internal or you couldn't apply the cream.

It's great to hear from you, Amy. Aren't parents wonderful?! My mom and dad run out to see me whenever I am having a bad day. But I am sorry to hear your anus still hurts so much! Did the doctors say this is common? How long do they expect for you to be in pain? I hope you will start feeling better soon; you deserve some much needed relief!

I was not expecting the pain from sewing up my anus.

Aww, Ames!! Your troubles are all behind you now!! Sorry, sorry, I just couldn't resist! Glad your mom's there and things are looking good and working as they should. Thanks for the progress report. Onward and upward now!!

Ames- I'm so sorry that you are in so much pain. I know that it feels like it will never get better, and surgery takes so much out of you too, but you will be on your feet, eating whatever you like and loving life again soon! Keep us posted when you feel up to it. We are all thinking of you.

Hey, Amy! Hang in there sweetie! I'm praying that you'll have a speedy recovery.:)

Hey you, no one misunderstands why you are not online. You rest and heal, far more important than being on here, but we do miss you. Doesnt having a sitz bath help? Would heal quicker, just a thought. Love and hugs..
