Good evening everyone!

So back in February I presented to the ER with a great deal of pain from my right buttock with firmness in that area which made sitting damn near impossible. They performed a CT scan and found a decent sized abscess fairly deep in the anal area. It was a Saturday and the ER doctor ended up calling one of the surgeons for his opinion; they were considering admitting or draining it in the ER. The surgeon decided to drain it there and even he himself said it wasn't draining the way it should, but it was draining. So he packed it, gave instructions for follow up and that's what I did. I followed up and he noticed some cellulitis moving through the area and put me on a stronger antibiotic. It appears that the luck I had with being in remission in 2016 had run out.

He recommended a procedure to go in to see if he could locate a fistula as he expected that there was one, however was unable to scope in the office as I couldn't tolerate it. Procedure was scheduled and was put under while they went to work. Woke up in recovery and was given pain medication and the doctor explained that he found not just 1 fistula, but 2. The one he performed a fistulotomy on while placing a seton into the other. Given instructions for home care & released and was back to work the following day with instructions for accommodation for care needs, which my employer had absolutely no issues with.

It's been a few days that I've had the seton and it's def taken some getting used to. I work in an office setting so i'm sitting my entire workday, a pillow comes in handy here :)

My GI doc wants to do a colonoscopy soon to explore the rest of what is left of my large intestine (2 feet of which was resected in 2013) so i'm just looking forward to that to see what we can do to get this back under control.

I'm not bad. They did the colonoscopy on 5/3 and found the large intestine to be in good shape but they did find mild to moderate inflammation in the area where they reconnected the small & large. Waiting to hear back on the biopsy results.

The seton is still in & I follow up with the surgical doc next week for him to look at it and both him & the GI will discuss the best way to treat everything.
