Has anyone else had this happen?

How does my mom reduce the inflammation in her ankles/feet?
she can't hardly walk.

Also, she keeps losing weight rapidly..too much!

What to do?

(doctors aren't doing a thing!

Hi thisizit and :welcome:

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum, I hope she can get things sorted soon. It must be so very hard for you to see your Mum going through this...

With your Mum losing so much weight and quickly she may well have malabsorption. When this occurs you can sometimes lose too much protein and this in turn causes problems with the body keeping fluid out of the tissues, it is an osmotic problem. If this is the case then the doctor needs to start treating the cause, which would be the bring under control whatever is causing her to lose so much weight.

There are other causes for peripheral oedema such as heart problems, medication (Prednisone), liver problems and others. Does your Mum have any other health issues aside from Crohns?

How long has she had Crohns and what medications is she taking?

Thinking of you,

thanks

She's had crohn's for about 20 years.

Meds: Humera injection, entacort.

she's also got rhemaoid & osteo arthritis

chronic fatigue...
and I'm not an iridologist, but a part of her eye that's discolored has to do with the lungs

she used to take prednisone, but that was about 10 years ago.

Entocort is a type of steroid so it could be a side effect of that. Humira can also have peripheral oedema as a side effect, although uncommon, particularly in older persons.

Your Mum's problem may not be as simple as one thing being the cause. It could be from malabsorption exacerbated by medication, I don't know but either way if it is so bad she is having trouble walking she really needs to seek medical attention.

Which doctors are doing nothing? Can she seek treatment elsewhere?

Hi and welcome! I am sorry your mom is having so much discomfort in her ankles and feet. I agree with Dusty, if her doctors aren't interested in helping, perhaps it is time to move on. Hopefully, a new perspective on her case can shed some light on what's causing this issue. Good luck!

crohn's

Thanks for the info guys!
already, your all more help than the doctors!
I took her to a natuopath (live blood analysis), and you were right Dusty, she does have a weak liver kidney and malabsorbtion problems.
Does anyone have any helpful recipes for Crohn's Disease - friendly foods?
Thanks!!!

There is lots of good diet ideas in the Diet, Fitness & Supplements forum.

But when I am flaring, I stick with a low-res diet that is easy on the gut. My staples include: chicken, salmon, potatoes, rice, toast, crackers, oatmeal, yogurt & bananas.
