Another almost hilariously bad episode from my life

I'm in a pretty bad flare right now, and just saw the doctor yesterday. He wants to do a colonoscopy Friday, I said sure so we can move things along. Both fortunately and unfortunately, I have this whole week off work. Good since that makes prepping for/having the colonoscopy easier, bad because this is not how I wanted to spend one of the two weeks off I'll get this year.

So now I'm starting the prep, and I'm wondering how the heck I'm going to get through it while my roommate's parents are staying with me. I live in a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house. I agreed to let them stay way before this flare started; they came all the way from Pakistan to visit him and his siblings who all live in the US, and I thought it would be interesting. It has been, and they're great and nice and interesting, but man, how am I going to take a full thing of colonoscopy prep while sharing a bathroom with three other people, 2 of whom are relative strangers and none of whom knows about my disease?

I also need to figure out how to politely dodge offers of Pakistani food, which I'm pretty sure would just make me explode.

I had earmarked this vacation time for hiking in Colorado, but looks like I'll be figuring out this dilemma instead!

Oh wow. I don't suppose getting a hotel room for prep day is an option for you? At least then you'd have privacy, your own bathroom, and the ability to avoid offers of their food.

I really feel for you on the vacation not going how you envisioned - that's how my last two vacations from work have been, too. Back in late August, I requested some time off work so that my husband and I could go kayaking. But I woke up 2 days before my vacation started and the world was spinning so fast and I was super nauseous - I ended up having labyrinthitis and it actually lasted for about 3 months, it was miserable. So that vacation was spent in bed trying not to vomit, kayaking was completely out of the question as I literally couldn't even get myself from bed to bathroom without puking. Not exactly the fun vacation I had envisioned! And then, at xmas I had requested some time off between xmas and new year's, just mainly to de-stress from the holidays and spend time with family, but I caught the flu on xmas eve and also spent that vacation resting in bed. I'm at the point where I'm afraid to request time off because I don't know what horrible thing is going to happen next! Apparently the universe just doesn't want me to have a vacation.

Hmm, a hotel might be just the thing; I should see if I have enough reward points saved up from work trips! That would make everything so much easier.

Glad I could help! I've heard others on the forum talk about getting a hotel room to do prep for similar reasons (in addition to not having to clean the bathroom after all is said & done!) so I can't take credit for the idea, but I'm glad I could be helpful. :)

A hotel would be great! I was going to suggest camping out next to the bathroom at a coffee shop or bookstore. It would help the time pass, anyway.

Just booked a hotel room, I think it will definitely be worth the cost!

Thanks you so much for the suggestion.

You said your scope is Friday, so that means today is prep day, right? Good luck with it and enjoy your hotel room! I hope all goes smoothly today & tomorrow.

I missed a call from the nurse to schedule my next. Hoping the hotel goes well for you, I might try it too!

Yep the hotel was a great move, thanks again. Scope went OK, they found a stricture which is new for me, so I'm reading up on those. On a low-residue diet for now.
