Hi everyone, I am new to the forum :)

I have had Crohn's for 6 years, and I have always been on Salofalk granules and Imuran (minus 2006 when I flared up badly and had to be hospitalized and put on prednisolone etc), however am on and off with the very minor flare ups.

I wanted to ask about this Low Carb diet stuff. I generally eat as well as I can and clearly stay away from what I know makes me ill (spicey foods, anything with a lot of salsa etc) but I have never thought to try the no wheat/hi starch diet until now.

I am due for a colonoscopy in two weeks and have been very bloated and had a little bleeding on and off so would like to tackle the carb diet. Milk and dairy have never really bothered me, alas I am now back to Soy milk just because! :p

Suggestions welcome! Also help on what you actually eat on this no/low carb diet because I love pasta. Don't mind much about bread though....help?

Thanks!

Carbs...generally the 'white foods' are safe foods for me, and seem to be for many )but not all) white bread, rice (if no strictures), crackers, potatoes are all well tolerated for me. Some have had some relief with a gluten free diet, but I really haven't come across the no carb diet used for crohns. Whenever I am in pain, I cut out all peelings of fruit, raw veggies, seeds, nuts, and spicy food...acutally I generally avoid these foods anyways.

I have been on a low-sugar diet for over 8 years, as well as being gluten-free. I find that sugar and gluten are inflammatory for me. I would suggest you do more research and see if you want to try it to see if it can help you. Wheat does make me bloated but so do most starches and I am more sensitive than most. I also have metabolic resistance in my family so I have to avoid sugars and starches to prevent diabetes.

If you try it, give it time. It took me about 3 months to feel significantly better and a full year to feel 100% better on this diet.
