Anti-MAP / fungal / pathogenic diet

I'm strongly of the belief that CD, or at least mine, is pathogenic. It makes perfect sense.

I'm seen vast improvements and come off medications since I reduced my sugar intake and cut out grains except oats as well as several unhealthy processed food ingredients that had severe triggers (gulten, canola oil, high fructose corn syrup.)

The more I learn about MAP and other pathogen's connection to Crohn's in addition to their loving sugar it all makes sense.

I'm trying to decide if honey is okay for this diet. Some say raw honey is anti-bacterial / fungicidal and it should be helpful. Others say all sugar is the same.

Thoughts?

Also was going to experiment with pomegranate and carrot juice but if I'm supposed to limit carbs to starve the pathogens I'm not sure if this is a good idea.

Again I've heard conflicting ideas that natural carbs sourced from fruits are safe, and others saying a carb is a carb.

I don't flare / react to any of these but that doesn't mean it isn't a slow build up over time effect.

I was trying apple cider vinegar after hearing good things about it and it started out fine then my symptoms went nuts on me. I've now read that all vinegar should be avoided on an anti-pathogen diet.

I'm concerned about balancing this diet. Ideally I'd go fully Ketogenic to eliminate carbs but where would I get all the fat a ketogenic diet needs? In my experience large amounts of coconut oil cause me to have diarrhea, but this may just be the die-off effect and will taper off - hard to know. Olive oil is similar. I could potentially consume more butter, but yuck.

People who say sugars and carbs are all the same are usually those who don't understand how food is meant to process through out body. Fruits are simple carbs with a lower glycemic index. They are digested slowly into the system so that they don't cause a major spike in blood sugar. Raw honey is your best natural sugar, and I would stay away from the maple syrup and stevia for a while. Sugar is also one of my worse culprits, but eating whole foods makes a whole lot of a difference.

I am not too familiar with the keto diet, but you might just have to stay away from coconut oil and olive oil until your body heals better. Have you tried avocado or walnut oil? Also, you can get your fats from meat by buying 85% lean, 15% fat grassfed (I say grassfed because you will get the most nutrients out of them; however it's okay to go conventional too if it's too expensive or not available). You also get the most fat from the thighs of an animal.

That's all I can think of right now, but I will let you know if I come up with anything else. Good luck!

For me as far as fats are concerned I use olive oil and butter to cook things in. If sugar is a big culprit for you like it is for me you might want to look into the SCD. It follows the same principle that sugar feeds bad bacteria and is about restoring gut flora. Once I'm healed enough to eat beef I typically will eat steak fat and bacon as well to make sure I am getting enough calories. Avacados are great too and high in good fatty acids that are anti inflammatory.

Yeah, coconut oil WAS fine, but a couple months ago I was flaring a bit from having too much sugar, I tried apple cider vinegar 'detoxing' and I think it made it worse. Now I can't have beef products, olive or coconut oil, or tomatoes, maybe even garlic (I haven't tested it yet) all of which I was safely and regularly eating as late as the end of February into march.

Now I'm down to oats, chicken, fish, milk and honey. I can gorge on fish, 4-6 fillets in a sitting. Too much milk or honey (not sure which, I think it's the honey) causes me to break out and get abscesses starting. I have on on my cheek that comes and goes. I think it's a skin manifestation of the bacteria.

I've been supplementing massive doses of lauric acid to try to get things back to normal so I can tolerate coconut and olive oil and some veggies.
