MedWire News: Crohn’s disease patients who receive treatment with antitumour necrosis factor-alpha drugs may put on more weight, particularly around their waists, researchers have found.

However, treatment with such drugs does not appear to significantly increase a patient’s cholesterol levels or their risk of developing diabetes

If I start getting heavy, it is usually because I am eating too much sugar and carbs. My intestinal health will get sketchy as my high protein diet has not been followed as strictly it should.

Getting to a normal weight is fine, after being sick for a long time, but getting overweight means I am headed for trouble. I was at my all time heavy weight when my worst symptoms appeared. There were other factors as well, such as huge stress, but I think my lousy diet played a role also.

I now monitor my weight closely and stay within 2 lbs of my optimum weight of 200 lbs. I do not diet, I just change what I am eating.
