Lately when Brian flares...he experiences what he called a lump in his throat. It bothers him so much that he doesn't eat. He's already soooo small if he loses even 1 lb you can see his rib cage. Pediatrician suggested 1 tsp 3x a day of Gaviscon. First dose went well...second dose caused him to vomit within less than a minute from swallowing it :(

I would call his Gi.
Our has DS on Zantac right now .
He was on Prevacid .
The dose the ped gives tends to be lower than the Gi .
If the ppi ( Prevacid) doesn't work you may want to ask for an upper and lower scope to rule out EoE in addition to Ibd .
DS has crohn's in his esophagus as well as stomach so the Zantac/ Prevacid was used to treat this .
One thing that helps is to eat many small meals and not before bed.
Raise the head of the bed ( books under the frame).
Also add en for when the reflux is bad and he won't eat.
This keeps the weight on.
Hugs.

Johnny had this. He took Prevacid. The Ped prescription was half the dose the G.I. prescribed. He was on it 3 months and everything healed and was able to get off. It made a huge difference. Talk to the G.I. about it because it might change how much Iron he gets and when you take it. Ask for the pills if he is having vomiting issues. They gave Johnny dissolvable tabs at first which made him gag. He did have crohn's in his esophagus as well.

(((Hugs)))) mom!

Sorry, but Gaviscon was the only thing Andrew was ever prescribed. Definately worth phoning and asking for something else. Is it a liquid he is taking? I have to say I feel quite sick trying to drink Gaviscon. Maybe he could try one of the chewable Gaviscon tablets?

Caitlyn has been on nexium since diagnosis. It really helps her with the reflux. I agree with the others if gaviscon is n working ask about an alternative

Claire was on Nexium for about 6 months. Doesn't need it now but it worked wonders when she did!

C had the same symptom initially, in fact his initial Dr appt was for this complaint and he eventually wouldn't eat much due to the "lump". He was eventually put on nexium which I guess started helping. We have noticed since though that if he starts getting anemic the issue would arise until the anemia was resolved. Honestly, not sure if the anemia truly played a role but when the lab starts showing a downward trend he starts the nexium and the issue hasn't presented itself again.

My son takes Prevacid. He definitely notices when he hasn't taken it so I assume it is helping keep things at bay. He takes the dissolvable tablets and says they taste quite good and he is SUPER picky so that is saying something!

I also have acid reflux, although not due to Crohn's. I sleep with the head of my bed raised (must be raised at least 6 inches) and I try to not lie down within 3 hours of eating. I also find that onions and garlic, even in tiny amounts, aggravates it.
