Buffalo,
Started Humira last week and have noticed an ache in my throat around but not on the uvula on my left side. It's not sore and scratchy but an ache and not very painful but noticeable. Anyone else deal with this starting Humira. Is this normal. When should i notify the doc? Thanks for any input :) Stay strong Crohnies! :ybatty:

It's worth talking to at least your GP about. It could be something like strep or other illness that your body can't fight because of Humira.

Whenever I am on biologics, I have a constant sore throat. My docs ruled out Strep numerous times, and said it was a side effect of the biologics. It was by far the worst on Humira. So, yes you should be checked for infection/Strep as you are on Humira, but if it isn't an infection it could very well be a side effect...does that make sense? By the way, the sore throat always went completely away within a month after stopping any biologic.

I've had a few mouth / throat sores while on H. They have been of no consequence and go away after a week or so. They look like white patches.

Good Luck

Sounds like you might have strep MikeinBklyn. Please get it tested when it happens again.

Upper respiratory infections are common with biologics but if they affect your life so much where you can't really function then you may need to switch to something else. I had recurring strep while on Humira. It would last up until my next injection so I was constantly sick for the 3 months I took it before I switched to Remicade (which I also stopped due to different side effects I couldn't live with).

Always tell your doctor about side effects that do not go away or are concerning in any way. Something mild could either go away or become more serious so please keep your doctor informed. Keep us posted. :)
