I am still in the midst of finding out what is going on with me, see my GI doc Wednesday and will likely go through some tests to see what is going on.

Does anyone esle on here have upper gut( stomach) gastritits issues? I have H-pylori, I had my stool tested by a naturopath doc a couple years ago and it showed I had H-pylori. I cannot take antibitoics for it as I am allergic to ALL the ones that treat it and quite frankly I would not take them anyhow as the only have a 30% chance of getting rid of the h-pylori anyhow. 70% of people will have reoccurnace with the bacteria. Does H-pylori effect only the stomach or can it effect the intestines as well? I am sure I have gastritits as I have all the symptoms( upper gut burning, excessive belching, bloat etc..). I have been taking manuka honey and pine nut oil ( they have been shown to help control h-pylori and gastriris. I also have mastic gum as well, but intestines are too icky feeling so I do not want to try that yet. Just curious how many other people on here have gastriris.

Hi - I know that your post is older, but I saw that no one replied, and I thought I might be able to help. I do get gastritis a lot, and I treat with Prilosec. I sympathize, because it can be really painful. Mine tends to subside within a few weeks with the antacid.

I don't know much about H-pylori. I think I've only been tested for this once, and I don't know what the result was. Maybe this will bump your post and others will have some input.

I've had gastritis for the past five years, and crohns for only a year. I have taken raniditine (Zantac) and switched over to omeprazole for about two years. The only thing with taken a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) is that it can lead to malabsorption of calcium, and a higher risk of fracturing bones. Between this and being on and off pred for the Crohns, my GI is worried since I've broken 3 bones in the past year and I'm only 23. I'm also going for a dexa bone mass scan to see how much damage has been done. It's hard because omeprazole has been a god send for how well it controls my gastritis yet it has side effects.

Oh wow - I had no idea it could also have consequences for your bones. You mentioned that it can affect calcium absorption - do you know if it can also cause vitamin D deficiency? I know what you mean about it being a godsend - I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't continue to take this... I'm sorry to hear about your broken bones - that's crazy!

It is mostly just associated with calcium absorption, and does not affect vitamin d. There have been research studies that have linked long term PPI use and prevalence of fractures amongst those with a pre disposition to osteoporosis. If you use google scholar you can find numerous studies, and opinions on the issue. The link between the two is not as concrete as is pred and bone loss, but just something to keep in mind if on PPI's for a long time, as well as having predispositions for osteo, and or been on prednisone.

I haven't had to take medicine to treat the gastritis in years, but yes, it was at it's worst when my Crohn's was. I still feel it here and there, especially when I have taken too much of the generic excedrin, it has aspirin in it, which I've been told not to take, but it's the only over the counter pain medicine that works on my aches, pains and headaches, so I still take it.

I have been taking medicine for gastritis for over a year(Zantac/Prilosec) & I can deffinately tell a difference. I remember getting kicked out of homeroom once for uncontrolable burping(To say it was uncontrolable is an understatement) before being diagnosed. My gastritis is caused by my Crohn's all biopsies show characteristic Crohn's granulomas in my stomach.

A GI once told me Prednisone can cause Gastritis or worsening. Go figure!

I have had gastritis quite a few times since I was diagnosed with Crohn's almost a year ago. Almost every time I have had it, it has ended me up in the hospital, SO painful! I was told to watch the foods I eat around the time I get gastritis and then stay away from those foods. Also alcohol is a huge cause of gastritis and was told to stay away from that as well. I was given Panteloc for the gastritis and it does work very well. Hope everything works out well for you.

I know how you feel! I have issues too. I've been dealing with C-diff ( Intestinal Bad Bacteria overgrowth) for the last 3 and a half years! It really sucks. H. Pylori sucks too, have they tried you on Xifaxan? I know you said you're allergic, I can't take antibiotics either so I know how it feels! I hope you get better soon!
