Anyone ever tried either of these? My GI gave the prescription to my mom whilst I was under colonoscopy haze and I didn't get to talk to him about it. He also gave me a prescription for Pentasa, and I'm not sure which to try first...but don't want to start them at the same time.

Hi Arin, I had to google Levsin and I have an antispasmotic, but rarely use it. Pentasa I have been on many times, and it helps reduce the inflammation and the Levsin will help stop cramping. They are totally different drugs. The Pentasa is something you will need to reduce your Crohn's symptoms. The antispasmotics may not work as some people dont think it works. The pentasa is a med you take all the time. Levsin you can take a few hours or as directed by your doctor, but they usually last about 4-6 hours.

Dont half the Penatasa it needs to get into the intestine. Just write down any side effects if you get them. I always eat with my meds, good practice. Good luck.

I used the Pentasa granules before, is something to take everyday.. find the granules form easiest for me personally

Hope its good for you :)

My son is on Asacol, which is the same drug as Pentasa, just formulated to target a different area of the intestines. He has never had any ill effects from it. He's been on 2400mg/day since last December.

Hey,
I am on Pentasa and have been for over 6 years, doesn't give me any side effects at all, so cross fingers you will be the same. But I still struggle to swallow the damn things as they are so large, but that is just me being a wimp :)

Levsin never worked for me, but Dicyclomine does. Dicyclomine is an actual pill you swallow, where as Levsin you place under your tongue and wait for it to dissolve (tastes like a sugar pill).

I could never get Pentasa to work correctly mainly because at the times I was suppose to take it I couldn't get off the cash register to, and I wasn't allowed to keep my meds on me while working. Now I'm on Lialda, which is the same medication, but you take it once in the morning and forget about it.

Im on pentasa with no problems. Pills are a bit large but you get used to them. If your lazy like me it is possible to swallow 2 at once. Although my doc did say it doesnt matter if you take them all in one sitting, it does say leave 3 hrs between doses ( i took 4 x 2pills )

i take four of the granuale sachets a day find them easier than the tablets especially if u have short owel syndrome
