Hello everyone,

I was diagnosed with CD last year. Getting ready for surgery next week. You can see my medications below. I was trying to find out if anyone else has experienced jaw pain in relation to Crohns? I also have experienced a lot of what you all have in regards to the fact I have mild hip and back pain on the right side. The jaw pain I am experiencing is also on the right side. Any advice on what to do?

PS. I have had my Vitamin D and Calcium Levels checked, along with a CT scan which checked for sacroilitis. All tests are normal.

Thank you in advance for your replies

Joint pain is common in Crohn's, this is first time I am hearing of someone having jaw pain. Contact your doctor and have it checked out just to be safe.

I have very bad jaw pain myself. I talked to my dentist and he asked if a specialist ever diagnosed me with TMJ. Then I thought about it and remembered seeing another specialist who did a few tests in the dental office (I think he was a oral surgeon) and told me that I have a very mild case of TMJ.

He then suggested that a splint be made for my mouth as he could tell I grind my teeth at night. (I just got a new mouth guard from my new DDS as the other one wasn't fitting properly). It would also help with the jaw pain/spasms.

I also suffer from severe migraines that come out of nowhere. I take a muscle relaxer at bed and wear my mouth guard at night.

For the migraines, I went for a 2nd opinion to the headache clinic that is well known in the area. I now take Relpax, Sumavel shots when the pain is over 11, and get trigger injections every 4 weeks. I still see my neurologist though as the head neurologist @ the clinic has a big ego but he is good at what he does.

Talk to your DDS to see if you can have TMJ ruled out or see your primary MD for help.

Thanks Gutless, I am sorry about your pain and migraines. I hope you find relief soon. I have asked my husband if he hears me grinding my teeth at night. He said no. I think I will check with my dentist. I will also check with my gastroenterologist to see if this pain is a result of Crohn's.

Hi, my jaw pain is always getting the better of me. i'm to the point where I can't stand it and take pain killers and relaxants for it. Mines all down the left side. I have arthritis, confirmed also by jaw xray and its breaking my teeth as its moved my bite. I sympathise. I also have arthritis in many joints.

Spooky, I am sorry that you are experiencing this pain. I will see about getting checked for arthritis. It helps to know I am not alone.

I have had jaw pain for a number of years, sometimes I cant even eat properly, on my wedding day 4 and a half years ago it was pretty bad and couldnt eat my meal probaly, I started on infliximab about 2 years ago and this has helped, iv had crohns for 21 years x

I dealt with very a constantly swollen and painful jaw a few years ago. I have some type of chronic arthritis along with Crohn's. It took prednisone to calm it down and it hasn't been back, although many other joints have been troubling me since. Good luck. Try a warm cloth for quick relief.

my jaw always feels like its catching, cant open my mouth without it clicking and is sore.

ps looking at your signature we are literally the same lol

Yes, I've had pain in my jaw, grinding, popping and sometimes I cannot open it very wide. It comes from my Enteropathic arthritis flares, usually preceeding a bowel flare by a few weeks. If it isn't too serious, I rub a little arthritis cream on the area at night before bed and it seems to help a little bit. Otherwise, my doctor ups the methotrexate and gives prednisone. I think it focuses there at times because I've had my jaw dislocated twice.

I am going back to my GI doc on Aug. 9th. This pain is something I will def. ask her about. If I get any answers, I will let you all know. Thanks for the replies...it helps to know that I am not going crazy!
