I'm currently on Cimzia and Imuran and terrified of the risk of cancer. I know the risk is low, but the type of cancer they can cause is fatal 85% of the time within months. I would never forgive myself if I got cancer from these drugs. Anyway, I've always been a conventional medicine type of gal. I'm lazy when it comes to my health, to be honest. I'd rather pop a pill than change my diet. However, I'm starting to rethink my stance on this. Especially since I'm on such powerful drugs and still flaring.

I found a practice that has a naturopath (though the licensure for that is not available in my state-he's licensed in another state). I was thinking about giving it a shot. I know he's going to tell me my diet is atrocious and I'm scared I won't have time/energy to overhaul the whole way I eat. But I know it's time to do something different. The consult is an hour and costs $425. They don't take insurance. Is it worth it? Do you still see a GI when you're seeing a naturopath?

I take some strong anticancer supplements to offset this. They are also good for crohns so I get 2 benefits. Here is what I take to lower my cancer risk.

Vitamin D 2000 IU per day.
1 turmeric capsule
2 ginger capsules
1 cup of green tea

I also try my best to adhere to a low processed, whole food diet with probiotic foods like saurkraut, yogurt, and kefir.

I would still keep in contact with my GI while seeing the naturopath. Lots of naturopaths will offer therapies to compliment conventional medicine. Get references for the naturopath.

Actually, I just realized-he's not a naturopath. He's an MD, but practices holistic medicine. He has a naturopath at his practice.

Naturopath

Hi Folks.
I also take vit D (10,000 iu's per day) and turmeric, ginger, green tea, and regular meds too, 6-mp, Pentasa.
I have changed my diet recently, I subscribed to Dr Joseph Mercola's newsletter, he is from the US and talks a lot about Miso soup sauerkraut etc. All good stuff.
I feel that my Crohn's might be better controlled by diet, conventional meds give me cause for concern, as chrisnsteph1022 says, this cancer is a bad one, once you get it, chances are slim. These drugs reduce your immune system, so there is a possibility that some cancers may form & spread. Would you run your PC without antivirus/anti spyware protection???-similar thing in my opinion.

Conventional meds are not helping me, been in flare & bleeding heavily since July 3rd 2011. I have CD , Dx'd Nov 11. I am looking to other ways of helping myself

Love & hugs to all
xx
