Anyone with azathioprine and remicade experience???

I had surgery to remove my colon and rectum nearly 2 years ago as my crohns was always in my colon. My crohns is now back and has caused a fistula in my Stoma so now I'm going to be coming off pentasa and going onto azathioprine. I was on this when I was 13 (10 years ago) so I can't remember much about it. I work in a dental surgery and worried about catching bugs and flus all the time. Is this the case? I remember on infliximab I caught bugs etc all the time. Are they the same or is infliximab worse?

when i was on infliximab i hated being in supermarkets/shops etc when someone was coughing and hacking all over the place lol but didnt seem to catch any bugs while on it, azathioprine was was ok for the 1st week or so , then the pains set in and the feverish sweating shaking etc, ended up with pancreatitis and another week in the hosp , but when on it your bloods should be taken weekly at the start then monthly, only thing i can say it you wont know whats gonna happen till you take them

I was on Aza for over a year and had three Infliximab infusions during that time, but no problem with bugs etc. I worried too cos handling money which is supposed to be dirty stuff but all was good.

hi wowbu sound like uve been throuh a rough time with crohns . my son has crohns hes 6 his is mainly in his rectum and colan hes had 3 ope already . he takes infliximab and aza. hes been doing well with both apart from having a relapse of an abscess over xmas . he had to stop over xmas as his neautrophil levela dropped really low and we started again 3 weeks ago bit his levels are droppibg again so we think hes gona have to stop . hes been doing really well though and i wish he could stay on it . i no it takes a few months to get in your system but it works well he hardley has tummy pain before he was in pain day and night hes just done 3 whole weeks in school amd not picked up a bug . im also a dental nurse but stopped working when lew was really sick when he feels 100% i.ll go back .
r u a nurse or recetiontist as ling as your hep b is up todate and your room is well ventalated . you should be fine i no u.ll prob no his but your mask will only protect you for 20 mins so if you have a long treatment id change after 20 mins and juat keep a hand sanitzier with u . i worry about lewis catching bugs at school he has his own hand spray amd gel and the teacher is very good at teaching the kids to keep there hands clean . hope the aza works for you hun and it heals your fistula .xx
