Apparently I can no longer eat corn.

Why can't you eat it anymore? Does it mess you up? I just had some three days ago and was waiting for it to be bad but it was fine so I guess corn is still ok for me

I only have a few things so far that I can tell are big no no's for me. Corn seems to be one of them. I did try a little creamed corn the other day and it seemed ok. I think its the fact that it doesnt really digest and stays whole.

Yeah, I concur with what SherryLynn said - even totally healthy people don't really digest corn very well and will sometimes see whole kernels in their poo later. It is just not an easily digested food. I find that even corn products, like corn chips, don't always sit well with me, so I try to avoid corn and corn products as much as I can.

In 2010 it was estimated that 70% of the corn crop was genetically modified. I am sure it is even more than that today.

It is known from animal studies that this type of corn can cause several problems, including digestive problems when used as animal feed. I would like to point to some studies on the effects on humans, but we are the Guinea Pigs. No studies on the safety of this type of corn or other GM crops has been done on humans.

Before you conclude that corn is the culprit, and it very well may be, get some heirloom corn from a local farmers market and try it. It could be GM corn that is the problem.

Just about any processed food that has corn in it, likely has GM corn, possibly with other GM crops.

I was always told by gastroenterologists to never eat corn - said that it could put you in an instant flare. So no corn, popcorn, creamed corn etc allowed at all.

Corn = no-no for me also coconut caused a blockage.. I stay far away from that! We have a sausage fest here at the end of the summer and they sell the best sweetest corn on the cob! Thinking about it I drool on myself almost worth the risk of blockage:) Hey it's once a yr why not..lol

After weeks and months of bouts of constipation I isolated the problem to corn. I love Mexican food and noticed whenever I ate corn tortillas or chips and salsa, my condition worsened. Then I started noticing it with bread, too. I've done my best to eliminate corn completely. It's EVERYWHERE! High fructose corn syrup is used in everything from plastic to toothpaste. I just don't know what to do. Staying away from it has helped, some.

I feel your pain! I'm in the middle of a flare and the Doctor specified corn as a big "no". Delicious delicious corn! Oh well.

When my Crohn's is in remission, I can eat corn no problem. It doesn't cause a flare up it just passes right on through - looks the same coming out as it did going in! In fact, when I am in remission, I can eat just about anything including nuts, seeds and popcorn. BUT when I have active Crohn's (like now, for instance) I can hardly eat anything! Any form of fibre or ruffage is strictly off limits. This means no corn (in any form), lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, apples, berries, and the list goes on, and on, and on......*sigh*

Corn and most skinned fruits are bad for you if you have inflamation or narrowing of the intestines from re sections. Apple skins have had me in hospital many times with horrendous partial obstructions.

Thanks, I just started a thread as I have in the last day gone into extreme pain, thinking it may be a bockage. Reading this just jogged my memory that I ate corn a couple of nights ago. Hey presto!
I'm new to Crohn's and finding it frustrating, it so hit and miss.
