Worried again about sons appetite. He DOES eat but picks at his food and his appetite is definatly not what it used to be. For example today he has had weetos cereal with whole milk and cup of tea for breki. I made him a sandwich, pkt of cheese nibbles , raisins and a jelly sweet at lunch (he in school so I hope he does eat it) I made lasagne for dinner which he picked at and ate maybe 5 mouthfuls with a tiny bit of garlic bread. I lost the plot a bit and told him off, which made him cry and now I feel awful for nagging him to eat! His ibd team say they are happy with him and if they were worried at all they would be doing something. We live 137 miles form his team so I cant just pop over. Think another phonecall on the cards and we are waiting on blood results from last week too. What are everyone else kids appetite like? x

Hi Dodie 74

My son is the same he picks at his food. I phoned his IBD nurse today to ask if there was anything to be concerned about he has lost half a stone in two weeks she is going to speak to his dietitian tomorrow to see if there is anything other than supplement drinks he can take as he does not like them she is also going to email his GI at Yorkhill to push for his appointment with surgeon.
Maybe you should contact his Ibd team just to put your mind at rest . Have you tried him with the likes of Ensure supplement drinks to keep his calorie intake up?

Azathioprine 50mg
Ferrous Sulphate 2x200mg
Centrum multi vit

Waiting on surgery

C really picked at his food for a long time and it always concerned me. Now, he is eating a lot more and more frequently so more like a teen boy.

His increased appetite seems to have coincided with the time at which he tested normal on the FC test at 48. I'd like to think this is the case and that he is eating normally now due to healing but just as soon as I state that out loud I'm sure a glitch will occur and the CD demon wil raise its ugly head!

I hope his appetite picks up and lab work comes back good!

Jack barely eats as well it is an ongoing battle and I have lost it more than once! I try and be patient and not nag but sometimes the worry gets the better of me and I loose it. He honestly doesn't realize how little he eats but he just doesn't feel hungry and even when he is hungry a small amount fills him up.

Mine eats a lot except when his crohn's is not under control.
Then he picks or not at all.
We supplement with peptamen jr as needed .
He drinks everyday but we increase if his appetite goes down .

My daughter doesn't stop eating when shes feeling good.

The only problem l have with her is breakfast...she hates eating in the mornings but l still force her to have a few bites to take her meds.

I do smoothies for my boy. I try to add high calories "stuff" to fatten it up a bit.
He loves it and so do I....that's the problem...I'm putting on all the weight he should be gaining.:voodoo:

I've pretty much give up on full meals. I serve DS half portions at meals and just make sure he's snacking throughout the day to get the calories he needs. I think his system just can't handle three big meals a day, so why fight nature?

Some days it seems like he's just grazing all day, but I'll take that over not eating.

All of my sons go through eating tons and not eating at all (Crohn's and non Crohn's kids)...

If he seems to be well otherwise - maybe just throw out his favorites for a wee while to see if that makes any difference. Alex ate mashed potatoes with gravy and cornbread *forever* before he stated eating anything else.

*Good* luck!

Thanks Everyone. I mentioned it to his ibd team but they weren't at all concerned as she said they keep a good eye on his weight evertime we go for the app, but that is every 6 months. What is peptamen jr? ive came across ensure , fortisip etc as my precious nana had to take them when she was poorly, not very nice drinks to take, yeukkkk!! does a gi have to prescribre peptamen? kian is just so fussy too (never used to be) Will drink whole milk and loves his cheese but defo no no to butter, potatoes, chips etc. Will post again once I have results of his bloods. xx

Sarah never seems to stop eating but Matt on the other hand is, I don't know...pickier? fussier? I don't really know the right word for it.

He will go from grazing to not really being hungry to eating huge amounts. I very likely am the one who places too much emphasise on the eating side of things. Very much a mum thing I think where appetite equals 'good'. I have tried to move past that and focus less on what he is and isn't eating and more on how he look and acts. I think I am succeeding!

Good luck with the results dodie! I so hope all is well.
