HI
I had a colonsoscopy 6 weeks ago where my dr discovered my crohns was back and also did a balloon dialtion as my bowel was almost closed, i was on steroids for 2weeks to bring it all under control. i feel ok.. my appt is tomorrow and he told me after he did the colonoscopy that when he sees me in 6wks we may have to go on drugs full time.. i have had crohns for 16 yrs, and when i was first diagnosed i had a complete bowel resection. i was never put on meds and felt great over the yrs.. 3 yrs ago i was feeling ordinary and had a colonoscopy and was out on Flagl (is this it ) during the last 3yrs i was feeling ok just bloated quite often hence the colonoscopy 6weeks ago, he also did a liver function test and he said that was very high,. (i do have it somewhere the numbers ) Anyhow do you think that there is a need for meds even though i am not continususly sick, i dont want to be on meds if they have heaps of side effects. i almost went bonkers on the steroids. thanks in advance

Sorry for the late reply Seb but I'd still like to address your questions.

Is there a need for meds? Well that's entirely up to you and your doctor. For me I don't think I'd be in remission this long if it weren't for the meds. I'm all for maintenance medication to help one stay in remission rather than have to deal with flare after flare so often. I've been on 6MP for about 15 years now with no side effects and no flare since my resection 13 years ago. Its entirely up to you if you want to treat the flares as they come. You'll only take steroids when you have active inflammation so I'm sure your GI didn't mean them when talking about maintenance meds. Usually they use something that suppresses the immune system to try and keep the disease from even acting up.

Since this response is late though I'm sure you saw your doctor and went over your options. What did your doctor suggest? Any update?
