Are tampons safe with perianal disease?

I have always held off from tampons since I've had such a rough time with perianal crohn's. Lately my periods have been getting on my nerves, and I am considering tampons again. Good idea or not? I'm just concerned about fistulas forming.

I have an IUD (no periods!), so am not a regular user of tampons, but I wouldn't be concerned about this. I do have multiple perianal fistulas and would not hesitate to use tampons if I needed/wanted to.

I have perianal issues too. I've had problems with a perianal fistula that keeps abscessing for the last 8 months. I use tampons with no problems.
