The plasma center up here gives $50 2X a week if you give plasma! That's $400 a month and it would really help my living situation since I still am having trouble trying to work at all!

I think it will depend where you live. Best bet is to phone up, but im not sure if it will be a good idea unless you are in remission

About 15 years ago I was told by the Red Cross that they wouldn't let me donate blood, because of concerns for my health. I was in remission and not on any meds at the time. I think it was the nurse who was running the blood drive's decision, and not official Red Cross policy, though.

With all of your symptoms and not being able to get your flare under control, I doubt they'd take you.

There are some research companies that will pay you for your blood if you are flaring. They use the blood for medical research, and it is not given as transfusions, etc. But you can only donate when your Crohn's is flaring and have to meet certain criteria.

In Australia you can but then you don't get paid either.

Dusty. :)

In the U.S., if you donate through the Red Cross, you do not get paid. But some private companies will pay. Although I know of very few people who have ever gone to a blood bank to sell their blood instead of donating it to the Red Cross.
