Hey so recently my doctor said I would need a colostomy bag in the near future due to a stricture and that it would be permanent due to the stricture being down so low. A few people have led me to beleive I can avoid getting a bag, anyone else in the same boat?

hey Conor , was it your surgeon that told you this

the forum is quiet enough this early , but you will get more opinions as the users from around the world go online ,
I was like you , I was very anxious about getting a bag , but not that I have one (for over a week ) Im wondering what I was so worried about ,
If you have any questions ask away ,
I had my op done in ST James in dublin by Mr Paul Mc Cormick and he was brillliant , explained all my option all along the way which helped a lot

Hey thanks for the reply, my surgeon and Doctor recommended it, in fact my surgeon is Dr McCormack from James hospital as well! They said I could probably hold off on it for a year or two but it seems quality of life goes up a lot when actually having the bag, just trying to get as many opinions as possible before I make a decision

well from my personal experience you have a great surgeon with Mr McCormick , my surgery has left just 4 tiny scars and one scar about an inch long,
I am 2 weeks post surgery and I have almost no pain or discomfort ,I think my quality of life was the main deciding factor in me having the surgery and not prolonging the inevitable , I am glad I have it done now , all i need to do now is take it easy , eat well and recover my general health slowely
Best of luck

Tony
