awaiting dx

Hello everyone.

I have been reading the forum for a while trying to better understand CD. My grandfather and father both have it and my brother and I show signs of it, and I am waiting a dx. I have several dr app coming up including a ct, mri, colonoscopy, and whatever else I can't remember. Here is kind of what I have been going through, and I would love some suggestions about what I could do to make it better, etc.

For as long as I can remember, I have had problems with D. I remember being seven and just laying my head over on the wall and falling asleep while sitting on the pot. I also have unexplained weight gain and weight loss. In the last year, things have become worse. I have periods of D followed by C and then it cycles again. I also have terrible pains on the right side, and terrible gas pains on the left side under my ribs. Curly up in a ball is all that about helps. I also have migraines, terrible acid reflux, stomach aches, nausea, sore throat, night sweats, swollen feet and hands, numbness in my feet and hands, gas, bloating, dizziness, vaint spells, and dry skin between my toes and some sores between them. Some of these things related some not.

These last three or four weeks, I have a terrible cycle with C and D. Several weeks ago, I got C, I had it for six days probably. I ended up getting some milk of mag because I was sooo bloated. Then I ended up with D for the next week. Then the cycle happened again. I went to the doctor, he scheduled my tests, and I go back today. He also gave me miralax to keep me regular. It hurt so bad everytime I took it! So I stopped. I had D last Friday very bad. Then Sunday I have very thin pencil like stool, and only one or two small ones. I had C all this week. I also had pain on the lower right and upper left sides. Last night I finally had the pencil stools again and a little mucus. This morning, I finally passed a large stool that hurt really bad and then I instantly I had D. It was almost like a cork was pulled and the water come flowing! There was quite a bit of mucus, more then I recall seeing before. I didn't see any blood or black stool though. Now, I am having terrible cramps and noises so loud I have scared my dog off. I am running to the pot at least every 5 minutes, and the smell is awful. I recognize the smell from flareups with my grandpa.

When I was younger, I was treated for ulcers and I had my gallbladder taken out. I never told my doctors about the D or C because I was embarrassed. I never told my parents either. I wish I had now, because this has been going on for a while, and getting worse.

Anyway, I am waiting until my dr app and I am going to be calling into work sick. I can't go be on the sales floor while I have these noises and running to the potty every two seconds. The way things are now, I would get stuck talking with someone and not make it to the bathroom.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, or things I should discuss with my doctor, etc. All I know to do is wait.

Amber

HI Amber :welcome: ! I am sorry you are having such difficulties as of late. It sounds like to me you are narrowing or have scar tissue. I hope your doctor or Gastroenologist, gets a colonoscopy asap... hopefully then can get immediate answers, scans do help but they results take a while and sometimes they are missed. With narrowing sometimes they cant go through the intestines, and the next thing (only my opinion ok, been thru this so many times) I would do is have a small bowel follow through, these tests are alot quicker. I would stick to smoother type foods or liquids, avoid dairy for the time being, wheat and corn is a no no. One thing you dont want is an obstruction. What do you take for your D? Try to avoid laxatives and use natural sources. When you have D, try unsweetened applesauces, and bananas, half at time. When you have Constipation use Senna tablets from a natural source and drink lots of water. Seeing a Gi (rather than a gp or internist) will help you, don't give up and dont let them tell you it is all in your head! :ybatty: Hang in there, please update as soon as you see a doctor. Seeing as it runs in families, dont wait ok. Hope you get relief soon.

Hi Amber and welcome! Don't regret that you hadn't said something in the past about your symptoms. At least you are doing something about it now. When are you tests scheduled for? I hope soon than later. It certainly sounds like something is going on, so the sooner your doctors can figure out what, the sooner you can address it.

In the mean time, drink lots of water, especially when the D is bad. Avoid NSAIDS (not good for those with IBD), though it may be tempting if you are having a lot of pain. Also, you may want to stick to a low-res diet that is easier on the gut.

Be sure to let us know how your tests go!

Hi Amber and welcome!

Goodness, you're certainly going through a lot, you poor thing :( It must be absolutely awful.

In addition to the above advice, a few of the symptoms you described have me wondering about vitamin and mineral deficiencies that need to be addressed as well. When you talk to your doctor, have them test for deficiencies, especially vitamin B12.

At least you've got the appointment so should be finding out what's going on for sure, soon. Keep us updated and in the meantime, we're here for you.

*hugs*

HI Amber, welcome to the forum, Not under the circumstances but the forum is very supportive and you can vent at any time. i am sorry you are having troubles but like Pen said maybe stay on liquids for a while and see if it will calm down your diarrhea for a while to let your bowel rest. I am having a flare up now and i am on liquids for awhile and it seems to help my condition. i hope you get some results back to resolve the issue so you can get on a maintence plan and maybe some medications to help you. If your having that much pain i would go to see my GP and see if he would Precribe something for the pain. i hope you get well soon . best wishes:rosette2:
