My son Matt is sick since last night he has been going to the bathroom all night. He is also throwing up I'm not sure what is going on I really don't want to take him to the ER but if I have to I will so I'm just asking fr some advice on what it is. I don't know if anything else is going on I just get the I'm fine answer every time I ask

Your other son was sick last week... did he respond and fully recover after receiving fluids, etc.? I'm just wondering if it's possible they both caught some sort of bug (rather than you other son simply being dehydrated)?

If you don't think it's connected, I would keep a close eye on Matt and, perhaps, call the GI.

My son's never had a blockage so no experience but, from what I've read, it is quite painful. Is he having any pain? You said he's been going to the bathroom, is he having normal BMs? But, if you suspect a blockage, it can be serious, so can't hurt to call the GI and let them know.

Sorry I can't be of more help... :ghug:

My question, too, is if he's in pain? And don't accept "I'm fine". He needs to give you a number on the pain scale or something more descriptive so you can figure out a plan of action.

Maybe call the GI and then hand Matt the phone? If someone else is asking him the questions, maybe he'll be more open to answering.

Tesscorm my other son did get better after fluids and no one Else got sick so I think they aren't related. To answer both you and Mehita I really don't know if he is having pain I'm not home at the moment I'm at work so I don't know he was sleeping when I left but my husband had called me before he left he said he was still sick so. And when I talked to him he said nothing. He drives me crazy he can never give me a straight answer. I have tried calling the GI office I think today there closed (I never have any luck with them ) but I guess if he is still sick and I can see he is pain when I get home it's off to the ER :(
Thank you :)

Obstructions and partial obstructions are painful and you can feel the pain in your abdomen (could be everywhere pain but when pressed on by a doctor they find where the pain is originating) and pain in your back as well (I'm not certain if everyone has back pain but that's been my experience with partial blockages). If it were a full blockage then there wont be any stool coming out but a partial blockage allows small amounts of stool to pass.

Hopefully it isn't either but as kids and even young adults we don't know what's going on if we've never dealt with it before and may do our best to avoid seeing a doctor or going to the ER especially (cause its boring and they make you drink nasty tasting stuff to run tests, well at least that's why I hated going :p). My mom dragged me to the ER when I had a partial blockage before my surgery. I guess doubling over in pain and vomiting out in public is something you can't really hide.

Keep us posted on how he's doing. :)

I just got home and he is worse he said his stomach is hurting really bad ( finally a answer) so off to the ER (he isn't happy but I'm worried ) I hope it's just a flare :)
Thank you so much :)

Good luck Kaitlyn ~ I hope it's not a blockage and the pain is "just" from a vomiting and diarrhea virus (and NO flare!)

How are things going Kaitlyn?

Sorry I am late to this. :(

Just wanted to make a couple of points. You know your boys better than anyone mum. You will know which symptoms are for them something that comes and goes and what is out of the ordinary. So if for example vomiting is not a usual symptom for your lad or if it is more severe than usual then that is something that needs to be dealt with. This applies to any symptom your child has.

When it comes to the ER there are two things that will have me out the door every time.

1. Severe pain that I cannot control at home.

2. Severe pain that is accompanied by vomiting.
