Bad Skin?

I've been on Imuran for about a month or so and have noticed that my skin has taken a real turn for the worst. I am breaking out badly on my face and on my back (which is unusual for me). I'm hoping its not a side effect and might have been caused by something else, but it just seems a bit coincidental that I started this new drug and then developed these skin problems.
Has anyone experienced bad skin as a result of being on imuran? If so, how did you fight it?

Thanks in advance,

Fabs (the currently spotty girl) ;)

I've not had that happen on Imuran (I had a far worse reaction) but I did break out on Colazal/Asacol. In my case the doc sent me to an immunologist/allergist who was able to desensitize me to the meds by simply tapering my dose up from very little to normal. Not sure if that might help in your case.

Hiya Fabs
Yeah I did, within 6 weeks of it, it was so toxic to my system!
I developed a rash which quickly escalted into a bleeding itchy urticaria (hives) all over my body especially my legs. It started quite calm, like spots or pimples then became very itchy.
I perservered for another 2 weeks, but eventually went to gastro with it. He was so shocked and said he'd never seen a reaction so bad! I stopped it immediately and had a break of about a month. Cleared up straight away within days.
I went on 6MP instead and within 6 weeks the exact same thing happened.
I would advise that you inform your gastro just to be on the safe side.

I've been on imuran for over a month now. My hair is falling out like crazy. Like, whole strands of it. I also have a bit of acne, but nothing that I would really worry about. I have good makeup and I know how to use it haha.
I have noticed a few pimples on my back, around my shoulders. I never had a problem with that before, but I'm also on alot of other drugs. My acne could be from the prednisone, not the imuran. The only side effects I can really pin-point are the hair loss (imuran) and the hair growth (prednisone) and the moonface (pred.)
These symptoms would be a very small price to pay, if I was feeling better. But I'm still in so much pain and still have alot of crohns symptoms. So it kind of pisses me off.
I just went and bought a good facial cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. I think it's keeping the acne at bay, for now.

Yes, I break out a lot more when I’m on Imuran, especially around my jawline. When I went off it for six months my skin improved but I’ve broken out again since going back on it. I just wash my face a lot more and buy lots of acne medicine.

I would agree with Samantha - my break outs are on my forehead mostly and behind my ears. One of my doctors thinks it is from the pred, the other from the remicade that I am now off of. I agree on the feeling better thing - deal with the darn break outs, but wish I felt better.
My solution - focus on feeling better and not the pimples - hard to do though! Keep your chin up.

Behind the ears is the worst. When I was a kid I was on the big orange pills that were the only thing available at the time: asulfasalazine. They were the size of nickels and FULL of sulphur. I used to get terrible excema behind my ears to the point that the whole hollow behind my ear would fill with blood and crust. My fingers and toes would become raw and stick together. I had huge patches on my arms and legs, especially in the crooks of my elbows and behind my knees. It was terrible.

6MP, though, just gave me pancreatitis and put me in the hospital. Very matter of fact.
