Balloon dilation instead of surgery?

Quick background since I'm new to the forum. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis roughly 20 years ago that has mostly been under control with medications (Apriso, Remicade). I've had upper GI pain over the last year and following numerous test (upper GI series, CT) I was diagnosed with a stricture (6mm) near my terminal ileum maybe caused by misdiagnosed UC instead of Crohn's. My GI dr referred me to a surgeon who suggested a surgical resection. Nobody ever mentioned the possibility of balloon dilation and I want to find a Dr to talk about the possibility. If anyone is in the Arkansas area or somewhere close and could refer me to a Dr with expertise in this area I would greatly appreciate it. I have a surgery scheduled for Oct. 3.

A balloon dilation may not be the best approach to the stricture.
Surgery will be able to determine what is happening inside....maybe it's more than a stricture...and why is the stricture happening....
The surgeon will be able to have a good look inside and maybe decide on a biopsy as well.
Have you discussed your problem with the surgeon?
You should have full information to help put your mind at rest.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Thanks for the reply. To be honest I didn't even know that balloon dilation was a possible treatment. I've since spoken to my gastro Dr. and he said that the location of my stricture and its length make it nearly impossible to dilate. However the fact that he never even discussed the possibility with me makes me want to hear a second opinion. The surgeon never mentioned the possibility either.
